17 units of the hell-bent crossover.

The original Nissan Juke-R was initially just an ingenious, but mostly fanciful limited-run prototype. Overwhelming response and a handful of offers convinced Nissan U.K. otherwise, and so the GT-R-powered crossover was born into limited production. With that history in its wake, we had to believe that Nissan is still willing to go the distance with the Nissan Juke-R 2.0 that debuted at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

According to Italian outletOmniAuto, Nismo engineers say plans are in motion to build as many as 17 units of the Nissan Juke-R 2.0. The final production volume will depend on just how many orders come through, but for some background, Nissan ended up producing six units of the original Juke-R in 2013. Then it cost in the neighborhood of $600,000, and it never came to the U.S. We don't expect either of those frustrating details to change this time around.

The first Juke-R concept blew people's minds with its 485-hp 3.8-liter V-6 and bonkers 3.7-second 0-60-mph sprint. By the time it reached customer hands, it got the upgraded GT-R engine with 545 hp, cutting the 0-60 time down to just 3.0 seconds. In a Juke.

Now, with the GT-R Nismo powertrain, the Juke-R 2.0 concept is armed with 600 hp of Japanese fury. It completed the Goodwood Hillclimb in 57.21 seconds, which would have put it in third place in the supercar class, behind the Noble M600 and the Lexus LFA. The front bumper is modified for increased airflow and cooling, carbon fiber cooling ducts are added to the hood, and GT-R wheels match the carbon fiber fender arches and roof-mounted spoiler.

We want the Juke-R 2.0 now more than ever.

UPDATE:Nissan tells us that when the Juke-R program was launched, it was stated that 23 units would be available for sale. (23 = "Ni" "San" in Japanese, which is the brand's official number). Given that six have been built already, it follows then that up to 17 more Juke-R models can be built before the cap is reached.
