Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Fuji Heavy Industries, and the Tokyo Electric Power Company have created the EV-friendly CHAdeMO Association to promote a standardized EV charging method to be used by automakers, suppliers, and utility companies worldwide.

Another important reason is to increase the number of quick charging stations located around the world. If you're wondering what CHAdeMO means, it's an abbreviation of the phrase "Charge de Move," or "charge for moving." Officials say 158 businesses and government bodies (20 of which are non-Japan-based entities) have already pledged their intentions to join the association. They represent automakers, charging service providers, charger manufacturers, and various supporting groups.
