2026 Mini Cooper JCW 1965 Victory Edition Honors a Monte Carlo Legend

Just over six decades ago, a Mini Cooper S achieved the impossible and won the 1965 Monte Carlo Rally.

The original Mini Cooper S debuted in 1961 and almost immediately began to see motorsports success, with one victory cementing both Mini and John Cooper as hatchback heroes: the 1965 Monte Carlo Rally. Now, some six decades later, the modern Mini Cooper John Cooper Works (JCW) is honoring that win in the U.S. with the 1965 Victory Edition.

The rest of the world gets S and JCW Electric versions, too. But while it’s understandable we can’t order the JCW Electric, as we don’t get the car it’s based on, we’re disappointed to be denied the S, the very trim used for Monte Carlo glory.

It’s still a pretty cool package. Outside, the 2026 Mini Cooper John Cooper Works 1965 Victory Edition—that’s a long name—reinterprets cues from the 1965 rally winner, including its No. 52 and “AJB 44B” number plate. The body is covered in Chili Red to resemble the original’s Tartan Red. The roof and mirror caps are finished in Glazed White, the same color used for the stripes adorning the hood and liftgate. The hood stripe features a raised rendering of the iconic registration number, while the hatch stripe features a “1965 Victory Edition” wordmark. The C-pillar has an interpretation of the Monte Carlo Rally participant sticker but with “1965” instead of the rally name.

The spoiler, wheel arches, rocker panels, and other trim pieces are finished in gloss black, while the 18-inch JCW Lap Spoke wheels feature a floating center cap and “52” JCW valve stem caps.

Inside, the JCW anthracite and red color theme remains the same but with a 1965 Victory Edition flair. A “1965” badge appears on the steering wheel’s six o’clock spoke as well as on the center console storage box. The standard JCW door sills are replaced with a set of “1965 Victory Edition” plates and the inner door frames get special stickers with the Monte Carlo car’s details and the names of Timo Mäkinen and Paul Easter.

The 2026 Mini Cooper JCW 1965 Victory Edition will be available in America starting in March in “limited numbers.” Mini doesn’t elaborate on an exact number, but we figure they will be pretty rare. Prices start at $47,395, a $7,320 premium over the standard John Cooper Works. While it would have been a bit fun to see some additional rally style on the 1965 Victory Edition with auxiliary lighting, new wheels, or maybe even all-terrain-ish tires, perhaps Mini is saving that stuff for an American Rally Association edition or homologation model. The company has entered both a Cooper JCW and a Countryman All4 into that series in the U.S. for the 2026 season under the John Cooper Works Race Team banner.
