Clarkson: Top Gear’s Reliant Robin Was Rigged for Comedic Effect

During a famous episode ofTop Gear, Jeremy Clarkson drove a Reliant Robin, and much to the comedic pleasure of the audience, it would roll when taking corners without fail. Now, Clarkson has come forward to say that the team atTop Gearhad actually tampered with it to ensure its comedic value.

On its own, the three-wheeled Reliant Robin wouldn't have rolled nearly as much, with the only real worry being tight, fast corners. Fans may be disappointed at the revelation, but it makes us wonder if this is the only time that Clarkson or another member of the show tampered with vehicles to get things to line up with the script.

"I'd asked the back room boys to play around with the differential so that the poor little thing rolled over every time I turned the steering wheel," said Clarkson in an interview withSunday Times Driving."Naturally, the health and safety department was very worried about this and insisted that the car be fitted with a small hammer that I could use, in case I was trapped after the roll, to break what was left of the glass."
