New Land Rover Range Rover SV Can Be Customized Over 1.6 Million Ways

Getting a 2022 Land Rover Range Rover—okay, any new Range Rover—is already a luxurious experience. Now it seems that the new Range Rover SV you order could beverydistinctly yours as the Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) team states it can customize the SUV in over 1.6 million ways. With about 15,000 Range Rovers sold per year in the U.S., it's safe to say that your SV model could stand out from any other on the road for quite a while, depending on how adventurous you get with the design.

The 2022 Range Rover SV

The Range Rover SV starts out unique from the standard 2022 Range Rover. The front bumper and five-bar grille design—of which the lower opening of the grille features full-width metal-plated blades—are only available on the SV built by Land Rover's SVO. The SV model also features a unique ceramic "SV" roundel on the tailgate. The simplified "SV" logo is also found on the fender blade and will be used to identify all vehicles built by Land Rover SVO.

New Use of Ceramics

The ceramic treatment finds its way inside, landing on the gear shifter, Terrain Response, and volume controls to give these parts a "cool-to-the-touch" feel, applied using similar detailing techniques to luxury watch faces, according to Land Rover.

Creation is a 10-week process that takes raw material and injection molds it to shape before sintering it at over 2,700 degrees. The ceramic is then precision ground to create an even surface before being diamond polished for a glossy finish or sandblasted to create a satin one. Before being installed onto the vehicle, the ceramic parts are quality inspected by hand and then installed.

Laser-Cut Wood Veneer

Another interior option is the FSC-certified wenge wood veneering that will only be found on SV's center console. Each piece is arranged by hand just after being laser-cut, including the smallest piece measuring 0.25 inch by 0.33 inch.

For the long wheelbase SV with the SV Signature Suite, the marquetry goes from the front of the SUV all the way to the fridge door in the rear and even on the electrically deployed "Club Table."

Leather and Ultrafabrics

It wouldn't be a true custom without the use of available leather on much of the interior. This material will feature SV-specific embroidery patterns and can even come in furniture-grade. This makes the leather softer with fewer treatments and less pigmentation.

If animal hide isn't your thing, SVs will now offer "sustainable ultrafabrics" in Light Cloud or Cinder Grey on the SV Intrepid theme. Land Rover claims these polyurethane materials have a soft haptic and technical aesthetic, with the feeling of quality leather, but are 30 percent lighter and generate only a quarter of the CO2 during production. This is complemented by Kvadrat Remix fabric on seat backs and headrests.

Metal Work

There will also be new metal on the Range Rover SV exterior trim, with either Atlas Silver or Anthracite plating on the grilles, lower tailgate, and rear fender ingot with a laser-etched "SV" logo.

There will also be seven different wheels available, depending on the powertrain and design theme, including a new 23-inch, triple-finished, diamond-turned forged aluminum wheel in Dark Gray Gloss. Other wheel finishes are matched to the themes of each SV, with Bright Atlas Satin Silver, Narvik Black Gloss, or Corinthian Bronze Satin inserts.

Unique Paints to SVO Vehicles

The Range Rover SV is available in the standard Range Rover colors, but there are 14 unique finishes in the SV Bespoke Premium Palette ranging from vibrant glosses to understated satin coatings. The roof of the SV can also be painted a contrasting color in Narvik Black or Corinthian Bronze, depending on the body's main color. There is also the SV Bespoke Match to Sample service, which can take any exterior color a customer requests and make matching paint, thus potentially expanding the uniqueness of each Range Rover SV even more.

Themed Models

If you're not really ready for that level of customization (or simply aren't that original), the Range Rover SV can come in two themed interior and exterior designs curated by SVO. The first is the SV Serenity theme, which is "luxury-focused," according to Land Rover. It builds from the Atlas Silver exterior with Corinthian Bronze accents with that color as an optional contrast for the roof and wheel accents. Its interior is a two-tone front-to-rear treatment focusing on the rear seats. The front passenger area is finished in brown leather while the seat backs are finished in white and continues through the rear reclining Captain's Chairs. The center console also splits between the front and rear passenger sections of the Range Rover SV.

The SV Intrepid builds on Anthracite and Graphite Atlas elements for a "stealthier, more dynamic character" to the Range Rover SV. Inside, its color split is more subtle using the aforementioned white and light gray ultrafabrics. The SV-specific seats feature a rectangular perforation pattern and typically gloss white controls are replaced by Satin Black ceramic controls.

Despite being curated, the themed models can still be customized. You can change the exterior colors, interior fabrics, the use of ceramics, five-seat or four-seats in the long wheelbase, or anything you want. These are truly bespoke models that are only limited to your imagination, but they all come with a 523-hp twin-turbo V-8 as standard. In fact, the engine and transmission are among the few things you can't change. If you're chomping at the bit to get yours, well, you'll have to wait just a little longer. The Range Rover SV will be available to order by early 2022.
