Pardon the subtitle above, but it's a rule of automotive journalism that articles about Jaguar must contain some sort of feline pun. More to the point, Jaguar now makes only two cars: the XF midsize luxury sedan and the F-Type performance coupe. In contrast to the declawed XF, the F-Type thrills with its catlike reflexes and roaring V-8 engine. OK, enough of our kitten around—continue on to read what's new in Jaguar's 2022 car lineup.

2022 Jaguar XF: What’s New

Jaguar's sole sedan got an extensive update for 2021 , so it carries over unchanged into 2022. Among last year's changes were refreshed exterior and interior styling, additional tech features including a new infotainment system, and the discontinuation of the previously available V-6, which was replaced by a turbocharged I-4 available in two states of tune.

2022 Jaguar XF: Pros and Cons

The XF handles fantastically for a midsize sedan. Pointy and balanced, it's very fun to toss around. Unfortunately, there's not enough power to complement that agility. In our testing, the more powerful version of the turbo-four engine was almost a second behind Jaguar's 0-60-mph estimate. It's frustratingly clear that the chassis can handle so much more power than what's on tap. Otherwise, the XF is a convincingly luxurious midsize sedan, awash with high-touch materials and draped in alluring sheetmetal. Jaguar's latest infotainment system is a big improvement from before. The XF's ride can feel a bit stiff, but besides that and its want for power, it's a lovely sedan to look at and drive.

2022 Jaguar F-Type: What’s New

Supercharged V-8 or not at all—that's how you can have your 2022 F-Type. Jaguar has gone all-in on an engine format that's falling out of favor, ditching the previously available I-4 and V-6 options in favor of a burly 5.0-liter eight-pot with a belt-driven compressor bolted to the top. It's available with 444 hp or 575 hp, rear- or all-wheel drive, and a fixed roof or convertible soft top. Otherwise, the F-Type's styling and features carry over from its 2021 refresh .

2022 Jaguar F-Type: Pros and Cons

Excited as we are for Jaguar's electric-only future , when it arrives, we'll remember the F-Type and think about the good old days. No doubt the brand will create EV sports cars at least as quick as the F-Type, but without the soul-stirring sound of that supercharged V-8 , the experience won't be the same. We're generally enamored with the car; its evocative styling will look amazing for years to come. With the 2021 update Jaguar tamed the beast , reining in the F-Type's tail-happy nature. Yet it remains blisteringly quick, still a thrill to drive—it just needs better brakes to keep that power in check. Even with its flaws, the F-Type remains a wonderful driver's car .

Alex's earliest memory is of a teal 1993 Ford Aspire, the car that sparked his automotive obsession. He's never driven that tiny hatchback—at six feet, 10 inches tall, he likely wouldn't fit—but has assessed hundreds of other vehicles, sharing his insights on MotorTrend as a writer and video host.
