2025 McLaren GTS Expert Review

Reviewed by Billy Rehbock

McLaren’s entry-level model is beautiful and powerful enough to make most flagship grand tourers jealous, if cars could feel such emotions. The 2025 GTS, the updated version of the discontinued McLaren GT, receives more power in addition to a smattering of other enhancements. Rivals to the 2025 McLaren GTS include other exotic luxury touring cars such as the Ferrari Roma, Aston Martin DB12, and Bentley Continental GT.

What’s New

  • Retuned engine with increased power
  • Redesigned front and rear fender air intakes for better airflow and cooling
  • A faster lift system capable of raising the car in four seconds
  • Standard gloss black exhaust finisher, mirror caps, window trim, and GTS badging
  • TechLux leather interior with updated color highlights and stitch design
  • New contrast stitch options
  • New 10-spoke Turbine wheel options and Orum wheel finish color
  • Stealth Badge pack option and GTS side badging
  • Available titanium locking wheel bolts are 35 percent lighter than standard bolts
  • Refreshed paint options
  • Updated Gloss Visual Carbon Fiber pack

What We Think

The 2025 McLaren GTS seeks to be the supercar with genuine daily drivability. Essentially a refreshed McLaren GT, the GTS targets the outgoing model’s weaknesses. An updated powertrain gains a slight bump in output while also receiving improved ignition timing efficiency, changes which could fix the engine’s low-speed refinement. An overhauled interior with fresh seating materials and stitching designs should help modernize the cabin so hopefully the GTS feels as upscale as its competitors.

Otherwise, McLaren kept all the good stuff we like about the outgoing GT the same for the GTS. With an improved power-to-weight ratio, the GTS should continue to be a veritable rocket ship. Its handling lends further credence to its supercar styling. As exciting as we hope the GTS will be to drive, we anticipate that its practicality will continue to be a strong point. Impressive cargo capacity and a roomy interior make this car a true grand tourer, worthy of challenging the likes of the Bentley Continental GT and the Aston Martin DB12. We’re looking forward to getting behind the steering wheel of the 2025 McLaren GTS, as these latest updates should make for a capable all-rounder.

Performance and MPGs

McLaren outfits every 2025 GTS with a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine cranking out 626 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. McLaren cites a power gain of 14 hp over the GT, owed to the engine’s ability to run a higher-octane fuel and more aggressive combustion phasing. New exterior design accents improve airflow to the radiator, enabling better cooling. A seven-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels. Expect 0-60 mph to take about 3.0 seconds. Fuel economy is rated at 15/22 mpg, according to McLaren.

Celebrating McLaren’s 60th Anniversary

McLaren offers a series of customizations in celebration of its 60th anniversary. The automaker offers distinctive paint options evoking its status as the only team to lay claim to racing’s Triple Crown, meaning McLaren has won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Monaco Grand Prix, and the Indy 500. Choices include Le Mans Grey, Monaco White, and Indy Orange. Other gear includes machined pedals inspired by the McLaren F1 and distinguished by a 60th anniversary logo affixed at the base of the accelerator pedal. Any McLaren outfitted with just one of these options receives a commemorative plaque with a special “Speedy Kiwi” logo marking the 60th anniversary.

Safety Features

Many of the safety features on the 2025 McLaren GTS are intended to keep the exterior of the supercar looking fresh or to help in extreme emergency situations. A fast-acting vehicle lift allows the GTS to raise the front suspension to traverse steep curbs. A warning triangle, first aid kit, and fire extinguisher are optional. Aside from a basic backup camera, typical active safety tech is omitted from the supercar’s options list.

Cargo Space and Interior Room

The 2025 McLaren GTS is surprisingly roomy for a mid-engine supercar and boasts plenty of cargo volume. Its long, shallow hatchback swallows 14.8 cubic feet of gear. The 5.3-cubic-foot frunk accommodates even more luggage.

Technology

McLaren stuffs the 2025 GTS with high-tech equipment befitting a touring car within its class. Standard features include self-leveling automatic LED headlights, soft-close doors, rain-sensing wipers, and front and rear parking sensors. Inside the cabin, McLaren outfits the GTS with push-button start, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, electronic parking brake, 7.0-inch central touchscreen, and 12.3-inch gauge cluster display.

Ticking the box for the Premium pack adds a 12-speaker audio setup from Bowers & Wilkins, a power rear tailgate, a cabin air filter with pollen filtration, Homelink, power folding door mirrors, and a luggage area privacy cover.

How Much Does a 2025 McLaren GTS Cost?

Offered in just one trim level, the 2025 McLaren GTS starts at $224,000. Models sold in the United States come standard with the America’s Accessories pack, which bundles together a USB cord, rear plate frame, carbon valve stem caps, a branded microfiber cloth, tire cradles to prevent flat spots, a car cover, a McLaren bag, and a battery charger.
