2024 Maserati Quattroporte Expert Review
Reviewed by Alex Leanse
Quattroporte literally means "four door," but there's more to this Maserati than that. The Quattroporte takes a different approach than most full-size luxury sedans, emphasizing driver engagement rather than outright comfort. Maserati built the first Quattroporte in the early 1960s, and the current generation went on sale for 2013. The 2024 Maserati Quattroporte lineup consists of a single trim level, suggesting that Maserati could soon end production as part of its electrification mission.
Quattroporte competitors include the Lucid Air, BMW 7 Series, and Porsche Panamera.
What's New
For 2024, the Quattroporte lineup is pared down to a single trim level called Modena Ultima Q4. It comes generously equipped, but its mandatory V-6 engine heralds the departure of the previously available V-8. The last time the Quattroporte was significantly updated was in 2021, when the car gained updated styling, a modernized infotainment system, and improved driver assist features.
What We Think
The Quattroporte carries an allure few of its competitors can match. Evocative styling, spirited driving manners, and undeniable badge cachet make the Quattroporte an outlier among large luxury sedans. Even so, those competitors outdo the Quattroporte in many other measures.
That's especially true for 2024, as the Quattroporte's glorious V-8 engine (one of the attributes that helped it stand out in the segment) is no longer available. The now-mandatory V-6 is good, but just not quite as enjoyable. The Quattroporte still handles better than a sedan of this size is expected to, though that comes at the expense of ride comfort.
Inside the Quattroporte, there's plenty of luxurious materials and amenities. Passenger space is less abundant. Maserati's infotainment system remains quite user-friendly, but newer rivals have far more tech.
Beyond that, most of today's large luxury sedans have more space, efficiency, performance, quality, and comfort than the Quattroporte. Still, only the Quattroporte has that inimitable Maserati mystique.
No More Ferrari V-8
The 2024 Maserati Quattroporte is no longer offered with the Ferrari-built twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V-8 it could be equipped with previously. Instead, it's now only available with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 that produces 424 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. That output is routed through an eight-speed automatic transmission to standard AWD. The Quattroporte is quick with this engine, accelerating to 60 mph in an estimated 4.3 seconds. Fuel economy comes in at 17/25 mpg city/highway.
Is Maserati Discontinuing the Quattroporte?
As this generation was introduced for 2013, the Quattroporte is now very old by automotive standards. The industry has changed drastically since the Quattroporte's introduction—few could've foreseen how electric cars would become such a focus. Now Maserati lists among the many automakers transitioning away from combustion in favor of EVs.
The aged Quattroporte doesn't reflect the brand's stated intentions to go all-electric. Given these factors, this generation of the Quattroporte is likely headed for the chopping block, perhaps after 2024 or 2025. The car's single trim level for 2024 hints at how Maserati is simplifying production to allocate resources for its upcoming EVs. Another clue lies in that car's name: Ultima means "last" in Italian.
Maserati isn't abandoning the non-SUV car market altogether, though. With the new GranTurismo offered in gas and Folgore EV versions, we wonder if Maserati will use the same strategy for a new Quattroporte, with powerful gas and Folgore EV options.
Safety Features
Maserati equips the 2024 Quattroporte with many driver assist and active safety systems, including front automatic emergency braking, road sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control.
Cargo Space and Interior Room
Although the Quattroporte's trunk is generously sized, the same can't be said about its passenger area—there's noticeably less space than in some of its segment competitors.
Technology
The Quattroporte comes equipped with a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen. We've found that system quite user-friendly; it's equipped with built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. A 7.0-inch digital display is mounted between the analog gauge cluster dials. A Harman Kardon premium audio system is standard.
One Trim Level Only
For 2024, a single trim level is offered. The Quattroporte Modena Ultima Q4 is powered by a twin-turbocharged V-6 engine, which is linked to standard AWD. This trim level is equipped with many niceties, including ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, soft-close doors, four-zone climate control, and Harmon Kardon premium audio. Inside, the black upholstery is contrast stitched with red thread. Design details such as sporty front and rear bumpers, 21-inch wheels, and red brake calipers add flair.
