F Sport misnomer
The RX Hybrid builds on the legacy of the original Lexus RX that pioneered the luxury crossover segment by blending comfort with practicality. Now, with multiple hybrid options, it sharpens that mission around efficiency and modern luxury.
Other luxury midsize hybrid SUVs include the BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class, and Porsche Cayenne.
What’s New
Updates this year are light. They include:
- A wireless phone charger with every model
- A dual-purpose 120- and 240-volt charging cable for the RX450h+
- The RX450h+ Premium grade
In addition, F Sport Handling and F Sport Performance upgrades can now be combined with the available Appearance package. Modeled on last year’s Black Line Special Edition, this year’s version adds:
- Black exterior trim and 21-inch five-spoke wheels
- Brake calipers in orange
- Available UItra White, Cloudburst Gray, Iridium, Incognito, and Caviar exterior paints
- A gray stitching-trimmed black interior
What We Think
The Lexus RX Hybrid hits its stride as a comfortable, efficient luxury SUV that’s easy to live with every day. It’s not the most thrilling to drive, but strong fuel savings, a smooth ride, and generous features make it the version to buy.
If you’re buying a Lexus RX, the hybrid is the smarter pick. Pricing is close between the base hybrid and gas-only models, but the former will save you more at the pump over time.
The RX350h’s engine isn’t as silky as the gas version, but the instant electric torque makes for easy drivability, and the overall experience remains quiet and composed. The RX450h+ plug-in hybrid adds useful EV range and brisk acceleration, though its steep price dulls the value, while the RX500h F Sport Performance doesn’t quite deliver the excitement its name suggests.
No matter the trim, the RX Hybrid comes well equipped with driver assists, a reconfigurable gauge cluster, and a mostly intuitive infotainment system—though the steering wheel buttons take some getting used to.
In the end, the RX Hybrid is a smooth, practical, and stress-free way to enjoy luxury while cutting down on gas stops.

MPGs and Range
Fuel economy is a strong point for the RX350h, rated at 37/34 mpg city/highway with up to 619 miles of range. The RX450h+ plug-in hybrid delivers 37 miles of EV driving, 540 miles of total range, and 83 mpg-e combined. The sporty-ish RX500h F Sport Performance returns 27/28 mpg and 464 miles of range.
By contrast, the Mercedes-Benz GLE450e 4Matic pairs a smaller 2.0-liter turbo-four with a transmission-mounted motor. Efficiency trails at 60 mpg-e and 450 miles of range, but it outpaces the Lexus in EV capability with up to 50 electric-only miles.
