2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Expert Review

Reviewed by Zach Gale

If you're still wrapping your head around a $100,000 Jeep, you haven't experienced the Grand Wagoneer. Even though it's far from perfect, the Grand Wagoneer is the luxury flagship of the Jeep brand. This year we're seeing a few changes to justify its now lower luxury price tag.

The Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator dominate this space, but the 2026 Grand Wagoneer sports a few changes to keep itself relevant in the enormous 3-row luxury SUV segment. Jeep will also simplify its big ute lineup by retiring the standard Wagoneer model after 2026.

The automaker also offers a smaller, two-row Wagoneer S all-electric SUV—read about it here.

What's New

The Grand Wagoneer lineup receives a midcycle refresh for 2026 that includes:

Basics

  • The standard output inline-6 engine replaces the high-output I-6
  • A stronger Range-extended Electric Vehicle powertrain option has been added
  • RWD returns, helping keep the price down
  • Limited Altitude and Summit Obsidian trim levels adopted, with rugged Upland and upscale Limited and Summit Reserve packages available

Exterior

  • Revised chrome-free design with a redone front and rear fascia and illuminated grille
  • New wheel designs
  • Jeep badging—no, seriously, this is a big deal. When the Grand Wagoneer arrived, it was pitched as a separate subbrand of Jeep, but it's now officially back in the lineup with actual Jeep badging on the hood

Interior

  • Black, Tupelo, and Dark Ruby Red colorway
  • Dark Waxed Walnut open-pore wood interior trim
  • Larger head-up display

What We Think

Part of this Jeep’s appeal lies in its smooth, refined inline-six engine and spacious interior. The issue is that those same strengths applied to the less expensive Wagoneer as well as the 2026 Grand Wagoneer, but with the Wagoneer bowing out after this year, that overlap is no longer a problem.

We're already fans of the ride quality and the fantastic McIntosh sound system, and did we mention how great those Hurricane I-6 engines are? They're quick and appropriately quiet, though some may prefer the slower Cadillac Escalade with its V-8 rumble. The addition of this year’s more powerful range-extended electric powertrain option means the Grand Wagoneer should remain fairly quiet and likely be quicker than the gas model.

Where things have gone wrong in the past is the interior and exterior designs. We don't mean the 2026 Grand Wagoneer's incredibly boxy appearance, though that might also be a turn-off. Instead, we're referring to the visual similarity of the Grand Wagoneer to the regular Wagoneer. That changes somewhat for 2026 with the Grand Wagoneer’s new more squared-off nose, raised headlights, illuminated wide, slim grille, and no chrome.

Inside the pre-2026 Grand Wagoneer, we said the design lacked the style of its American rivals. Updates this year attempt to correct that and include a new Black, Tupelo, and Dark Ruby Red motif and Dark Waxed Walnut open-pore wood accents with the Summit grade. A larger head-up display is also available.

The 2026 Grand Wagoneer is a surprisingly effective luxury SUV with room to spare. This year's changes and new lower cost of entry only enhance its appeal.

Performance

The Grand Wagoneer’s powertrain lineup sees a complete overhaul for 2026. Previously, this full-size SUV came exclusively with the high-output version of Jeep’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo Hurricane inline-six, producing 540 hp and 521 lb-ft of torque, good for a 0-60 mph time of 5.0 seconds in MotorTrend testing.

For 2026, the standard-output version of that engine takes its place, generating 420 hp and 468 lb-ft. While not as quick, it should still reach 60 mph in about 6.0 seconds, respectable for such a large SUV (for reference, the long-wheelbase Wagoneer L with this engine managed 5.5 seconds).

Instead of introducing a 4xe plug-in hybrid as expected, Jeep adds a new range-extended electric powertrain. This setup combines a 3.6-liter V-6, 130-kWh generator, 92-kWh battery pack, and electric motors at each wheel. The system uses the engine to power the generator, which converts mechanical energy into electricity to recharge the battery when needed. Altogether, it produces 647 hp and 620 lb-ft of torque, enough for an estimated 0-60 mph sprint in just 5.0 seconds according to Jeep.

Rear-wheel drive returns to the lineup this year, but it’s available only with the pure-gas base model. The Grand Wagoneer offered a RWD model for its 2022 debut, but Jeep dropped it from the range the following year.

MPGs and Range

Previously, both the standard and long-wheelbase Grand Wagoneer returned identical fuel economy ratings of 14/20 mpg city/highway. However, the longer model benefits from a larger fuel tank, extending its range to 518 miles compared with 450 miles for the standard version.

With this year’s less powerful standard-output engine, fuel economy for the gas-only Grand Wagoneer should improve, likely approaching the Wagoneer’s 16/23 mpg rating. Expect an estimated range of around 500 miles for the standard model and over 550 miles for the long-wheelbase version.

As for the new range-extended electric model, Jeep hasn’t released full details yet but anticipates a total range exceeding 500 miles.

Safety Features

Grand Wagoneer safety tech includes:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane centering
  • Lane keeping
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Parking sensors
  • Automatic high beams

Cargo Space and Interior Room

The Grand Wagoneer comes standard with second-row captain’s chairs but can be optioned with a bench seat to accommodate up to eight passengers. With all three rows in use, cargo space stacks up well against the Escalade and Navigator.

Technology

Infotainment

Every 2026 Grand Wagoneer features a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen paired with a 10.3-inch climate control display below it. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. The base model includes a 10.3-inch digital driver display, while higher trims upgrade to a 12.3-inch version. Additional available screens include a 10.3-inch front passenger display, a 10.3-inch rear control screen, and dual 10.1-inch seatback-mounted displays for rear passengers.

A wireless phone charger comes standard, along with 12-volt and 115-volt outlets. The Grand Wagoneer includes at least eight USB ports, with up to 11 available depending on configuration.

Sound System

The base setup is an Alpine nine-speaker system. Jeep also offers 19- and 23-speaker McIntosh arrangements.

These include power-folding side mirrors, a center console cooler, air suspension, a two-speed transfer case, three-pane panoramic sunroof, and 360-degree camera. The Summit Reserve appearance package adds ventilated rear seats. Value

Standard Features

Every Grand Wagoneer packs a powerful engine, spacious cabin, and—true to its Jeep roots—respectable off-road capability. All trims also come with remote start, rain-sensing wipers, a hands-free power liftgate, power-adjustable steering column, and heated and ventilated front seats.

Recommended Trim

This year’s price cuts are no small thing—savings run deep across the lineup. We recommend the Limited Altitude trim, which upgrades the base model with Nappa leather-trimmed seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated second-row seats, and power-folding side mirrors. It also costs about $25,000 less than last year’s Obsidian model.

What’s Up With the Upland Package?

This package is built for off-road readiness but also adds useful trailering hardware. Trail-focused features include Selec-Speed Control (an off-road cruise control that lets the driver concentrate on steering), an active two-speed transfer case, limited-slip differential, 3.92:1 final drive ratio, Quadra-Lift air suspension with semi-active damping, skid plates for the fuel tank, transfer case, and front axle, front and rear tow hooks, and painted 20-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in all-season tires.

For towing, the package adds trailer light monitoring, a trailer tire pressure monitoring system, trailer brake control, trailer hitch zoom and line-up assist, and Blind-spot Monitoring with Trailer Tow Detection System. Jeep also includes a locking in-vehicle safe.
