2010 Hummer H2 Expert Review
Reviewed by Staff Writer
Our first introduction to Hummer was through the awesome H1, a go anywhere, do anything vehicle derived from a military application. But it was big, massive in fact, almost unable to fit in between the painted lines on the highway. It had a big price tag to go with it as well, with a starting price north of $100,000. Very few could even think of owning one.
Then along came the Hummer H2, which General Motors developed after it took ownership of the brand. While it carried the exterior look and feel of the H1, the H2 was significantly different and was based off a GM full-size truck platform with its underpinnings showing.
The H2 has proven to be a very competent off-road vehicle in its own right, with ample power, good ground clearance and short front/rear overhangs. Alas, the H2, with its 6.2-liter V-8 mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, is being discontinued, as a combination of high gas prices, GM's bankruptcy and a lack of a suitable buyer have conspired to kill the Hummer brand itself.

For 2010 there is nothing new for Hummer, in fact, there is no longer a Hummer. General Motors discontinued the brand when the search for a buyer came up empty. Very few, if any, Hummers were built in 2010. For 2009 Hummer made a few changes, mainly cosmetic, and added a few more features. The Black Chrome package was new for 2009 and substitutes the bright chrome trim with black chrome as well as body color-matching wheel flares, rocker moldings and hood louver.
There is no mistaking a Hummer when you see one, it has very distinctive styling and definitely has a presence to it, and the Black Chrome package adds even more personality.
H2's have nicely appointed interiors sporting many standard quality amenities like dual-zone automatic climate control, auxiliary rear climate control, leather seating, power front seats with driver memory, heated front and second-row seats.
The 2010 Hummer H2 comes with a 6.2-liter V-8 producing 393 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control. When you go off-road the Hummer offers a dual-range transfer case with driver-selectable rear differential locker and an electronically controlled throttle calibrated for the low range. The H2 also has an 8,200 pound towing capacity.
4-wheel anti-lock brakes (ABS), dual front airbags, curtain 1st and 2nd row overhead airbags, airbag occupancy sensor, four-wheel drive, traction control, and StabiliTrak stability control and OnStar all come standard
