2025 Honda Passport Expert Review
Reviewed by Zach Gale
No longer the only midsize SUV in Honda's lineup, the Passport is a spacious crossover with more of an off-road visual appeal than the Prologue, a fully electric midsize model. Aside from the Prologue, the 2025 Passport's key rivals are the Toyota 4Runner, Subaru Outback, and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

What's New
With a new model arriving for the 2026 model year, the Passport rolls into 2025 essentially unchanged. For 2024, the Passport added a top-of-the-line Black Edition, gave the TrailSport model greater off-road capability, and improved interior storage solutions.
What We Think
The Passport hasn't always been our favorite midsize SUV and certainly isn't the strongest product within Honda's own SUV lineup, but it is one of the most spacious models in its class. There's something to be said for that, but not so much for the outdated infotainment system, underwhelming fuel economy, and just-OK safety-test performance compared to its peers. In our tests, it felt like the nine-speed automatic transmission seemed to be one or two gears higher than we wanted.
So, despite a strong 280-hp V-6 and AWD both standard on every Passport, we'd suggest checking out the new 2026 model first before making a move on a 2025.
Powertrain and Performance
Every Passport features a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that produces up to 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. That power is sent through a standard nine-speed automatic transmission and AWD, enabling launches to 60 mph in as little as 6.5 seconds, reasonably quick for the segment.
The tradeoff is only so-so efficiency. The 2025 Passport returns fuel economy of 19/24 mpg city/highway, not as good as the same-year turbo-four-powered Subaru Outback, which returns 22/29 mpg, or V-6 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which gets 19/26 mpg. Honda should have a more efficient engine for the redesigned 2026 Passport.
Safety Ratings and Features
No matter whether equipped with FWD or AWD, 2025 Passport models receive NHTSA’s top distinction, a five-star overall safety rating. IIHS last looked at the Passport for 2024, when it earned mixed ratings for crashworthiness. It nabbed Good scores in the original side test and original moderate overlap front test, but an Acceptable rating in the small overlap front test and a Marginal rating in the updated side test.
The Passport’s driver assist features are part of the SUV’s standard Honda Sensing suite. Automatic emergency braking, lane keeping, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot and cross-traffic monitors, automatic high-beams, and parking sensors are included.
Cargo Space and Interior Room
No Honda two-row SUV offers more cargo capacity than the Passport. Even though the all-electric Prologue is longer, it doesn’t translate to more space in the hold.
Technology
Standard cabin equipment includes an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, seven speakers, and a wireless phone charger. Every 2025 Passport also comes with heated power front seats and automatic headlights. A hands-free power liftgate, ventilated front seats, power folding side mirrors, and ambient lighting are unlocked on higher trim levels.
Passport EX-L vs. TrailSport vs. Black Edition: What's the Difference?
The 2025 Honda Passport is available in three trims this year: EX-L, TrailSport, and Black Edition. Prices for each go up just $500 compared to last year, and there’s no change in destination. The entry-level EX-L features standard 20-inch alloy wheels, an acoustic windshield, three-zone climate control, and leather trimmed seats and steering wheel. It starts at $43,795.
The off-road adjacent TrailSport gets a specially tuned suspension and 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. It also comes with roof rails, on-board navigation, and orange stitching on the steering wheel. Pricing starts at $46,395 for this trim.
The Passport Black Edition is the fancy model. As well as 20-inch painted black wheels, it gets auto-dimming side mirrors and 10-speaker audio. Acoustic forward side glass is also included, for a quieter cabin. The top 2025 Passport comes in at $49,865.
