Testarossa is one of Ferrari’s most storied nameplates, harking back to the 500 TR of 1956 and later the rad-tastic Testarossa of the 1980s. Now, it’s revived for the 849, which derives the numerical part of its name from the number of cylinders, and the displacement in cubic centimeters of each of those cylinders—eight, and 49 cc.
Top-Ranked Competitors:
849 Testarossa Engine and 0–60 MPH
The 849 Testarossa uses a plug-in hybrid powertrain that’s evolved from the SF90. It’s centered around a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 supplemented by three electric motors; one inside the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic, the others devoted to each front wheel.
Total output from this all-wheel-drive system is some 1,035 hp, enabling a 0–60 mph launch that shouldn’t take much more than 2.0 seconds—if that long at all.
EV Range and Charging
Thanks to its plug-in hybrid system, the 849 Testarossa has all-electric driving capability. It uses a 7.45-kWh battery that can provide upwards of 25 miles of all-electric range.
849 Testarossa Assetto Fiorano
As it has with other models, Ferrari offers an Assetto Fiorano package for the new 849 Testarossa. It equips the car with additional carbon-fiber parts, such as the seats and 20-inch wheels, along with various titanium bits. Extensive aerodynamic changes increase downforce and visual aggression.
Suspension supplied by Multimatic and available Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires further enhance the vehicle’s dynamic potential, but the 849 Testarossa Assetto Fiorano has no more power than the standard car—that stronger version will surely arrive in the future.
Safety and Driver-Assist Features
Advanced electronic assist systems sharpen the 849 Testarossa’s performance. The new Ferrari Integrated Vehicle Estimator (FIVE) system predicts the vehicle’s next movements and adjusts the various controls accordingly.
Ferraris are all about involvement, but the 849 Testarossa nevertheless comes with a variety of active driver aids including:
- Front automatic emergency braking
- Blind-spot monitoring
- Lane-keep assist
- Adaptive cruise control
- Automatic high beams
Technology
A large digital display ahead of the driver serves as the gauge cluster and infotainment center, all controlled by haptic buttons on the steering wheel. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. Another display in front of the passenger lets them control various settings and monitor the vehicle’s performance. A 360-degree camera is included.
How Expensive Is the New Testarossa?
Pricing for the 2027 Ferrari 849 Testarossa is expected to begin above $550,000 before any options are added. Expect the Spider and Assetto Fiorano versions to cost tens of thousands of dollars more.
