2026 Cadillac Optiq-V First Test: Quick off the Line, Slow on the Plug
Cadillac built a credible EV performance SUV but neglected to give it credible EV performance.

-Attractive, functional design

Cons:
-Pathetic range and charging
-Not overtly fun to drive
-Tough competition in lineup and segment
When it comes to EVs, “quick” means a few different things. In the case of the 2026 Cadillac Optiq-V, how quickly it accelerates is impressive—but how quickly it charges is anything but. This contrast vexes the highest-end version of Cadillac’s smallest EV, while questions swirl about what it's meant to be. We tried to get to the bottom of it through our tests of the Optiq-V at the track and on city streets.
A Vision of Sporty Electric Luxury
Credit to Cadillac for infusing luxurious appeal into all its EVs, regardless of size. The little Optiq isn’t so epic as the enormous Escalade IQ, but it still offers lots at the entry level: standout design, big-screen tech, and abundant features, all adorned with high-touch details in a well-built package. Excellent Super Cruise hands-free driving is included.
At the 2026 SUV of the Year contest, where the Escalade IQ triumphed, our judges enjoyed looking at, sitting in, and driving the Optiq. But its lack of a frunk, slow charging, and uncertain market positioning undermined it. Turning up the power has to help, right?
The base Optiq uses a single rear motor with 315 hp and 332 lb-ft, good for a 0–60 time of under 6.0 seconds. Next is a dual-motor AWD powertrain making a generous 440 hp and 498 lb-ft, cutting the 0–60-mph sprint to 4.4 seconds. Now, the Optiq-V arrives with larger motors borrowed from the Lyriq, bringing total output to 519 hp and 650 lb-ft.
But V vehicles aren’t just about muscle. Like others in the series, the Optiq-V gains various upgrades to increase its sporting acumen. Its adaptive dampers have internally adjustable valves, enhancing suspension control between drive modes. Six-piston Brembo front brake calipers bite down on larger 15.4-inch rotors. Standard 21-inch wheels pair with Continental SportContact 6 tires. Unique fascia treatments, painted lower body trim, and available carbon-fiber details don’t make the Optiq-V quicker but do make it look so.
