Our 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV Is Stuck in Recall Limbo

A regular service appointment revealed the 2025 Blazer EV had a recall of its own.

When our long-term 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV RS arrived, we hoped our SUV of the Year winner wouldn’t be affected by the recalls that plagued 2024 models. For the first six months of our loan, fortune favored us with a blissful half year free of issues.

Lulled into a false sense of security, our long-term Blazer EV has never given us trouble as we’ve piled on the miles. We’ve taken our yearlong review Blazer EV on road trips across state lines, hauled groceries and furniture, and endured traffic during our daily commute without issue.

The First Service Appointment

Chevrolet prescribes inspections and tire rotations every 7,500 miles for its EVs, and the MyChevrolet app notified me that it was time to take our Blazer EV into the dealer as we approached the first interval. Although I procrastinated for about 600 extra miles due to travel needs that didn’t line up with the Blazer’s service schedule, I called my local Chevy dealer to set up our long-term SUV’s appointment after hitting the 8,100-mile mark.

The dealer was flexible and had no problem penciling me in at my earliest convenience. After taking down our Blazer EV’s VIN during the conversation, the service advisor then notified me our long-term SUV was included in a recall (Manufacturer Recall Number N252503010) for a defect in the rear parking brake’s wiring harness.

If the issue presents itself, the Blazer EV’s parking brake can actuate while driving or disengage while parked, causing risk of collision or rollaway. I was informed that the dealership’s service center would address the issue if the correct parts were available, but otherwise I’d have to come back later.

Upon arrival, the dealership’s staff got me checked in quickly, although our Blazer EV long-termer wasn’t eligible for Chevy’s complementary first-time maintenance visit because it’s owned by General Motors. Fortunately, the bill was only $49.95—a good indicator of what you can expect to pay once your Blazer passes the complimentary period. Unfortunately, the service center couldn’t help us out with the recall; we’d have to wait to be notified later.

After a little under two hours in the waiting room, our Blazer EV was ready to go. The service experience was nothing special, but the staff was friendly and communicative. And while our Blazer EV’s rotated tires were ready for the next adventure, we couldn’t help but feel unresolved driving away with an unrepaired recall.

Still Waiting

It’s been well over a month since our service appointment, and Chevrolet has yet to alert us of our Blazer EV’s recall with an official notice via mail or app. We’ve racked up nearly 2,000 more miles in the intervening time and still haven’t had anything sketchy happen behind the wheel. We even had a chance to test the Blazer EV’s parking brake during Monterey Car Week on a steep hill at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. While we worried for the Subaru Impreza parked below us, the brakes held for the whole day.

When our 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV first arrived, we hoped all its gremlins had been vanquished during GM’s stop sale. We remain optimistic that our long-term test car will remain unaffected by its outstanding recall as the electric SUV crosses the 10,000-mile mark, and we’ll keep you appraised as things progress.
