2024 Tesla Cybertruck Dual Motor 0–60 MPH and ¼-Mile Tested: Can It Cyberdust Other Electric Trucks?
We strap our equipment to the mid-grade Cybertruck.0:00 / 0:00
Whether it's scaling Hell's Revenge or the walls at The Beverly Hills Hotel, the 2024 Tesla Cybertruck has proven it has the thrust to perform outrageous feats. But can it outrun its competition from Ford and Rivian?
To find out, we got our hands on a 2024 Cybertruck Dual Motor Foundation Series, which Tesla says should accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds. We easily bested that time with a 3.8-second run to 60 mph before crossing the quarter mile line in 12.4 seconds at 110.3 mph, just a touch below the Cybertruck Dual Motor's claimed top speed of 112 mph (we actually reached 114 mph in our testing).
Not bad for truck that tipped our scales at 6,660 pounds. Like other non-performance Teslas, testing the Cybertruck Dual Motor was simple. It starts by selecting the Dynamics submenu within the main vehicle settings screen. From there, tap Sport under the Drive Mode options. Sport mode adjusts acceleration settings from Chill to Standard, shifts ride and handling from Relaxed to Focused, and adjusts the ride height to its lowest setting.
With no launch control procedure to fuss with, achieving the quickest straight-line numbers was just a matter of mashing the accelerator. Any attempt at launching with pedal overlap results in a warning message indicating that power to both front and rear motors has been reduced. With 593 horsepower and 525 lb-ft of torque on tap, the Cybertruck accelerates strong off the line, but dips in intensity as you approach the quarter mile.
