GT-R Without The Skyline - Super Street's Top 5 Nissan R35 Feature Cars

Updated July 2020:With a new Z apparently on the horizon, we're crossing fingers and toes that Nissan will give its aging R35 GT-R a much needed factory update. Or not; the twin-turbo V-6 all-wheel drive still has very few peers among similarly stock competitors, especially at its price point, plus it has a ton of tuning potential. While some of its styling and appointments could definitely use a major refresh, we wouldn't turn down the keys to one.

These GT-R owners took their keys and went big, landing themselves a spot on Super Street and earning tons of views in the process. The five cars on this list represent over 6,500 horsepower among them. In addition to the two R35 on American soil, we also rounded up one each from Thailand, Dubai and the Philippines. The lineup features JDM in the way of Top Secret and Aimgain, in addition to Alpha Logic's insane 3,000-plus hp drag car. Likely one of the only people in the world who owns a Hakosuka, R30, R31, R32, R33, R34, and R35, you can call Heng Thammarat a GT-R super fan. His R35 sets the bar ridiculously high for streetable GT-R builds, tripling factory horsepower to a whopping 1,600hp with a 4.0L-stroked VR38DETT and an AMS Alpha Performance upgrade package. Equally as impressive is the Top Secret Version 3 body kit, supplemented perfectly by the rare Top Secret x OZ Racing forged wheels and Aeromotion active rear wing.

A 1,600hp street car may be nothing to sneeze at, but this 3,400hp race car is completely other worldly. Built for one thing—the 1320—Mohammed Al-Baker's R35 features T1 Race Development-built, methanol-fed 4.3-liter billet block from AMS Performance that's paired up with T1's ported factory cylinder heads and valvetrain, along with GRP connecting rods, Diamond pistons, Trend wrist pins, and big pair of turbos. On the dragstrip at Bahrain International Circuit last year, the GT-R became the quickest and fastest all-wheel drive car in the world, posting a 6.582 at 232 mph—and it's still on the stock chassis!

Keeping the racing theme going is former SS cover model Luna Tran's Jotech Motorsports-built NISMO GT-R. Her R35 is outfitted with a built VR38DETT to do events like TX2K roll racing, where in 2019 she set the record for fastest and quickest GT-R with stock turbos and full weight-9.175 seconds in a 1/4 mile at 148.14mph.

For Jay Garcia and his daughter, the choice to go with a JDM Aimgain widebody for their R35 was borne from a desire to be different from all the Pandems and Rocket Bunnies of the modified car world. Turns out that may have been the right decision, because the purp GT-R is the first in America with the kit. Our friends at Autofashion in San Diego were in charge of the build, additionally outfitting the Nissan sports car with GTR G2M wheels also by AimGain and a custom upholstered passenger cabin, among other mods.

At first glance, Marbel Bayomang's Godzilla might not seem all that special and even a little commonplace as far as R35 builds go until you get into the details; it's there you realize no expense was spared in crafting the ideal demo car for his shop in Manilla, MEK Automotive. Some of the more impressive bits include a Kline Innovation Inconel exhaust, Alcon big brake kit behind those TE37, and a slew of Varis exterior carbon that consists of hood, Magnum Opus wrap around aero kit, and rear wing.

From the Editors:If you're a regular visitor to our website and have been paying attention, you'd know we've been busying ourselves lately with updating a lot of your favorite older stories, like this one. Being totally transparent, the 2020 version of this list has zero in common with the previous version published in 2014, but that doesn't mean those old R35 suddenly suck—quite the contrary. Nissan GT-R from Varis, AMS, Bensopra, and Sumo Power were kings in their day, and honestly, we didn't have the heart to completely cut them out from this updated reckoning. So, in a compromise of sorts we decided to keep photos of those previous honorees in the gallery. Thank us later.
