Daniel Ricciardo raced his Red Bull Formula 1 race car against RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force) pilot Flight Lieutenant Michael Keightley in an F/A-18 Hornet ahead of the Australian Grand Prix. The race between the race car and fighter jet was captured in this new video.

In the video, Ricciardo, the first Formula 1 driver from Western Australia, shares his passion for all things speed, while Keightley discusses his path to become an air force pilot. Both men cite hard work, passion, and perseverance as being key to fulfilling their dreams.

The actual race is brief, as you might expect with both vehicles being capable of mind-warping acceleration. The Red Bull RB10 gets the jump on the Hornet, owing to its new turbocharged 1.6-liter V-6 making 600 hp (plus an additional 160-hp boost when needed from the dual-motor Energy Recovery System). Once the Hornet gets up to speed, however, the outcome is inevitable.

"It was very surreal. I definitely felt the pure power of the Hornet and as it passed me I was just hoping that it wasn't going to blow me off the track," Ricciardo said in a release. "It makes what I do seem low level compared to that!"
