Spied! Audi E-Tron Quattro Caught Testing in Public

Audi's all-electric luxury crossover moves closer to production
Writer

The upcoming Audi E-Tron Quattro has been caught testing out in public by our spy photographers, and based on the way it looks, the all-electric crossover hasn't strayed far from the concept that debuted at the 2015 Frankfurt auto show. Unlike the larger Q7, the Audi E-Tron Quattro appears to have a lower roofline and less ground clearance, giving it a more wagon-like appearance. Audi says the concept is able to do 0- 62 mph in around 4.6 seconds.

As with most modern crossovers, the Audi E-Tron Quattro also features body cladding to make it look more rugged. It appears to have a slightly different front fascia compared to gas-powered Audis since it doesn't have a traditional grille. The E-Tron Quattro is expected to have three electric motors with a total output between 320 to 370 kW (equivalent to 429 to 496 hp) and up to 590 lb-ft of torque depending on whether its boost function is activated. They will be backed by a 95-kWh lithium-ion battery that should give the car a range of around 310 miles on a single charge. Using a 150-kW charger, the E-Tron Quattro will be able to get a full charge in 50 minutes. Wireless inductive charging could also find its way to the production model as will a solar panel roof.

Expect the interior to feature the latest tech from Audi, which should include the slick Virtual Cockpit system, a new-generation MMI infotainment system, and semi-autonomous driving aids. The production vehicle is expected to arrive by 2018, and Audi has already started taking reservations for the E-Tron Quattro in Norway.
