Porsche as EV Innovator
When Porsche’s Taycan first arrived on the scene, we were underwhelmed by the range of its all-electric four-door sports car. It wasn’t long, however, before Porsche made significant strides to shift our impression in a positively charged direction.
Aside from being sublime on the road, the recently updated Taycan now feels like it charges as fast as it drives. As of this writing, no other car in our testing has pushed more miles of range into its battery from Level 3 DC fast charger in less time than the 2025 Porsche Taycan 4S, with 215 miles delivered in just 15 minutes.
Porsche also includes a Level 2 slow-charging AC port on both the left and right sides of the Taycan. This may make it more expensive to repair in the years to come, but it’s also a convenience that facilitates easier home charging. In a car with dual AC charge ports, it matters less where the home charger is located.
Porsche Wireless Charging FAQs
That brings us to the new 2026 Porsche Cayenne EV and its wireless charging system. This tech comes from a brand that’s doing what it can to improve the EV experience beyond simply adding more range. Which, to be clear, we’ll gladly take more of, as well.
The Porsche Wireless Charging system is capable of charging speeds up to 11 kW, which matches the going standard of home wall-box chargers these days. Cadillac offers a 19.2-kW charger for home use, but for now 11 kW is what you get almost everywhere else.
The process is the tiniest bit easier than plugging into your garage’s wall charger, which is already one of the best parts about owning an electric car like this Porsche SUV. To charge wirelessly, drive into your normal parking spot, and the Cayenne Electric’s park assist will display a green circle that represents the receiver unit installed between the front wheels of the SUV.
As you park, you need to line up two green circles on the screen—one for the car, one for the pad. The Cayenne then lowers itself to start charging. Easier than an eye test, and you’re done.

- How big is the Porsche Wireless Charging pad? 46 inches long, 30.7 inches wide, and 2.4 inches tall
- How much does it weigh? The pad is 110 pounds, and the receiver unit on the car is about 33 pounds.
- What about my cat? The pad gets a little hot, but it also has motion and foreign object detection, which we saw in action with a prototype. The tech meets all appropriate European and American standards for safety and environmental protection. Also, give your cat a pspsps for us.
- How efficient is this tech? Porsche says up to 90 percent, so several percent less than plugging into the wall.
- Is the Porsche Wireless Charging system well made? Time will tell, but you should have no issues driving over it or using it in the rain or snow. If it’s installed outside, you can bolt it to the driveway. Porsche says the warranty will be four years, but the unit will be validated for 10. No maintenance is required.
- Does this mean I no longer need to clean up my garage? Eh. Even with Porsche’s electric car wireless charging tech, you should probably do some spring cleaning every now and then. This tech targets early adopters, but there’s also a convenience factor if you have stuff piled near your wall-mounted charger, or lack one altogether.
