Peugeot Food Truck Concept Serves Up Style and French Cuisine

Writer

Peugeot is literally dishing on its newest concept, which only looks like a regular van until it splits open to become a mobile French restaurant. Dubbed "Le Bistrot du Lion," the food truck concept offers a fresh and stylish take on the restaurant-on-wheels trend.

While most food trucks are big, boxy, and bulky, the "urban chic" van fits right in with the busy city since it has short front and rear overhangs so that the driver can easily maneuver it around town. It also has a long wheelbase to maximize load volume, but all the magic happens once the van splits open to double its width. Once it's transformed, separate areas are used for food preparation, eating, and refreshments. The food prep area features a 46-inch screen so that people can watch the chef in action, and if that wasn't enough to make the hungry even hungrier, Peugeot also added speakers and tweeters to maximize the sounds of all the food sizzling on the two grilling plates found inside. The vehicle was also retrofitted with four induction burners, a deep fryer, and a 400-liter refrigerated under-floor compartment for the food. Drinks stay cool in a separate 350-liter refrigerator unit, and for customers who want a hot drink, coffee is served thanks to a Rocket Espresso machine. The food truck will not only provide delicious plates, but also a cool ambiance since it has space for a DJ booth.

Commanding the mobile kitchen will be French chef Sven Chartier, of Saturne and Le Clown Bar in Paris. Chartier sources all his food locally from organic farms. "Le Bistrot du Lion" will also be environmentally friendly since it recycles all waste.

The French food truck will make its debut next week at the 2015 Milan Design Week, and after that, it will make an appearance at the 2015 World's Fair, Expo Milan, where the theme this year is "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life."
