Mopar Adds to 100-Strong Historic Roster of SEMA-mobiles
A closer look at this year's SEMA creations from Mopar.Mopar claims that 30 percent of FCA North American vehicle sales include at least one Mopar accessory item, a number that leaps to 98 percent for the Jeep Wrangler. That model enjoys an average of $700 worth of Mopar gilding. In fact, FCA so integrates the accessories business into the production car business that projected aftermarket sales are crucial to making the business case for some niche models. The Specialty Equipment Market Association show provides an annual opportunity to gauge reaction to potential future accessories and show off the latest items to hit the catalogue. So with that preamble, let's have a look at the current crop of 11 concepts.

JeepWrangler Red Rock
The year 2016 will mark the 50th anniversary of the Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, and this Red Rock concept pays homage to that auspicious event. Naturally, there are "Red Rock 50th Easter Safari 4-Wheelers Moab, Utah" badges and red paint, plus a production Mopar Power Dome hood with a matte-black graphic. The suspension gets a 2-inch lift kit engineered by Jeep (even the Fox shocks were tuned in house) plus 17-inch bead-lock wheels wrapped in 35-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires. Visibility is enhanced with new LED projector head- and fog lamps, the former replete with Jeep logos and the latter inset in a 10th Anniversary bumper that houses a new Warn winch. Seat upholstery gets Red Rock embroidery, and a hopeful dash plaque suggests this concept could serve as 01/50.
Dodge ChallengerGT AWD
Probably the coolest of the concepts was this traction-optimized 5.7-liter Challenger. The engineering team had to beat the bejeebers out of the transmission tunnel to make room for the Charger/300's transfer case, and there was more development work to do because this is the world's only 5.7-liter eight-speed automatic AWD LX/LC/LD car (but perhaps not the last). Then they slammed the suspension with a prototype lowering kit comprising fully adjustable coil-over-shock units. The kit also includes stiffer anti-roll bars and a suspension tower brace. The brakes are enhanced with a prototype Mopar kit based on Charger Pursuit police brakes. The track was widened via high-offset 20-inch prototype (forged, machined billet) rims wrapped in Pirelli P Zeros sized 285/35 front, 305/35 rear. This required a dramatic flaring of the fenders and rear quarters. The engine benefits from a Mopar Stage III kit that adds 75 hp (for 450 total). Capping it all off is a coat of Destroyer Gray paint with bright orange accents, tasteful GT AWD badges, and a two-tone black and gray interior. We say drop a massaged Hellcat crate motor in this baby and put it up against Ken Block's Hoonigan Mustang.
