The model set to replace the Jeep Compass and Patriot recently adopted the name "Compatriot," but apparently the catchy moniker will not be used when the new CUV launches.Technical Director Frank Markus recently got the scoop fromJeep and Ram boss Mike Manley, who said the upcoming CUV's name has been confirmed, and it will either be "Compass" or "Patriot."

Manley didn't divulge too many details about the new Jeep model, but he did say its production and launch schedule is on time. Markus predicts it'll revive the Patriot badge, and we can expect it to make its North American debut at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show in November. It will start production in China by the end of November, and it could hit markets early next year to coincide with the Chinese New Year.

We've previously reported that the new model will ride on a stretched platform ofthe Renegade, and a possible powertrain is a 2.0-liter turbo-four. Many test mules have already been spotted, revealing styling cues from the Cherokee and even the Grand Cherokee.

Manley also said the automaker is still considering an A-segment model to slot below the Renegade. He said the chances of it getting greenlit are very good. The model would almost certainly launch outside North America first, but there's a small chance the tiny Jeep could eventually make its way to the U.S. That possibility hasn't been ruled out, Manley said.
