Jeep and Dometic Show Off New Wrangler Rooftop Tent and Awning Concept That's State of the ARTT
At the 2025 Overland Expo West, Jeep set up a wild new rooftop tent and awning system.
For those in the overlanding culture, a rooftop tent and a fold-out awning are must haves for those not trailering a camper to a site. While neither of these products are new on their own for Jeep owners, Dometic and Jeep Performance Parts (JPP) by Mopar have created something that not only integrates both into a single system, but one that is fully tailored to the current JL-generation Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (four-door).

It's one of those things that makes you wonder why someone didn’t do this before. Again, a rooftop tent and an awning that mount separately for the Jeep Wrangler isn’t a new idea. These overlander must haves have been around well before overlanding even became an off-road phenomenon. The idea of combining the two and easily mounting this system to the roll cage and hard top roof—negating the need for a heavy-duty roof rack—are slightly more unique. Especially considering it allows the awning to cover the driver’s side and rear of the Wrangler Unlimited, giving it the name of “ARTT”—Awning and RoofTop Tent.
The whole system is capped by a carbon fiber aerodynamic shell that covers everything. This cover then pivots on a set of hinges on the driver’s side of the system using Dometics AIR Frame Inflation system, exposing the rooftop tent that’s large enough for a queen-sized mattress. The other half of the tent pivots towards the passenger’s side and includes a ladder for accessing the tent from outside of the Jeep.
Though, you don’t have to use that tent—which leads us to the other unique feature of the ARTT: the interior access port though which one can enter the tent via the Wrangler's cabin by removing the hardtop's “Freedom Panels.” Again, not a totally new idea, but the ARTT includes a carbon fiber step that tops the center console to make climbing into the tent much easier and protects the console from damage.
The awning also extends out using the Dometic AIR Frame Inflation system, swinging a full 270 degrees from its driver’s side cover that lifts up and away. When fully opened, this awning provides shade all the way around to the rear of the Wrangler. The supporting arms are also fitted with LED lighting while the awning is also supported by a cable that ties into the Wranglers hood. Even when fully deployed, you can still fully open the tailgate and lift window for access to the rear cargo area of your Wrangler.
The storage boxes that replace the rear quarter windows of this Wrangler 4xe Sunchaser Concept aren’t part of the ARTT system but show that a fully accessorized Wrangler wouldn’t have problems with this integrated system.
The Dometic and JPP ARTT System is just a concept, but one that seems fully grounded in reality. It would be a shame if this didn’t become a future JPP product because there is an easy use case and selling point for an integrated rooftop tent and awning like this. Let’s hope we’ll find out more by the time the 2025 SEMA Show rolls around.
