Get used to the name Jaguar F-Pace because the new model will be joining the automaker's lineup in 2016. The F-Pace will be the production version of the C-X17 concept crossover that first appeared at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and has since been spotted in prototype form on the Nürburgring.
So where did the name F-Pace come from? Jaguar says it was inspired by the F-Type, which sort of makes sense from a styling perspective. Specifically, the F-Pace crossover's taillights, teased in the photo above and video below, are similar to the F-Type's thin and narrow design that looks sharp especially at night thanks to the distinctive LED bar that punctuates the lower edge.
The production version should look pretty close to the C-X17 concept. The concept's front fascia, for example, shares a number of design cues with the upcoming2016Jaguar XE, and the interior should be handsome, too, complete with the automaker's signature rotary gearshift knob.
As previously reported, the Jaguar C-X17 concept had dimensions that were pretty close to the BMW X3. Powertrain choices will most likely include the automaker's 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 that should make around 240 hp. A supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 making over 300 hp will probably be offered as well.
The F-Pace, along with the XE sedan, will finally make Jaguar a player in two key segments. While this will be a relatively quiet year for Jaguar, 2016 is shaping up to be an exciting one for the Leaping Cat.
