GM Recalls 2011, 2012 Chevrolet Corvettes Over Hatch Hinges

The Problem:Some hinges used to support the rear hatch assembly on 2011 and 2012 Corvette coupes may not meet the load requirements mandated by federal motor vehicle safety standards (FMVSS). As a result, the assembly could break free from the vehicle during a collision.
The Fix:GM will replace the faulty hinges at no charge. GM should already be notifying owners of the recall, but customers can seek further information by calling Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438.
Vehicles Affected:GM says the recall affects 4064 2011 Corvettes and 1691 2012 Corvettes, all built between January 24 and September 1 of this year. GM was able to isolate the flawed parts to a particular roll of steel used in their manufacture, but doesn't note what percentage of vehicles built will be affected. GM insists all vehicles involved will be corrected as necessary.
