GM, Lyft Launch Car Rental Program for Ride-Sharing Drivers
Drivers who hustle don't have to pay the rental fee.
If you're looking to moonlight as a Lyft driver but don't have a car that qualifies (or a car at all) then General Motors has you covered. The automaker, along with Lyft, has just launched its Express Drive program that will allow drivers to rent GM vehicles to use for the ride-sharing program.

The two companies launched Express Drive today in Chicago and will roll it out in more cities soon. To take advantage of the program, drivers rent a GM vehicle by paying a weekly $99 fee, which also includes insurance and maintenance.
There's also a benefit the more you drive. According to Lyft and GM, drivers who reach at least 65 rides a week won't have to pay the rental fee. Those who give at least 40 rides a week will pay the $99 fee. However, drivers who don't reach 40 rides a week will need to pay the $99 fee plus 20 cents per mile. Rentals are available up to eight weeks at a time.
For now, the five-passenger Chevrolet Equinox crossover will be the sole vehicle available for the program.
Express Drive is just one program GM and Lyft will execute from their partnership. Back in January, the companies agreed to collaborate on a project to combine autonomous vehicles with ride-hailing services. Ford is also looking to tap into a similar programand is rumored to be working with Google.
