Ford Shelby GT350, GT350R Recalled for Oil Leaks

Ford has issued two separate recalls for the 2015-2017 Shelby GT350/R Mustang and 2010-2012 Escape, both of which pose a fire risk in certain circumstances. Meanwhile, Subaru is recalling more than 100,000 vehicles in the U.S., also due to an issue that can lead to fires.

The Problem:Engine oil cooler tube assemblies on certain GT350 models may have insufficient crimps on the hose, which could lead to a hose separation and an oil leak. If an oil leak occurs, drivers run the risk of engine failure, or in certain circumstances, fires. Ford says it isn't aware of any fires, accidents, or injuries related to this problem.

The Fix:Ford will replace the engine oil cooler tube assembly.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected:Ford says there are approximately 6,523 vehicles in the U.S. affected by the issue, as well as other vehicles in Canada, Mexico, and federalized territories. The affected vehicles, including 2015-2017 Ford Shelby GT350 and GT350R models, were built at the Flat Rock Assembly plant between February 24, 2015 and August 30, 2016.

The Problem:Fuel leaks may occur on certain Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner vehicles equipped with 3.0-liter engines. A faulty fuel supply port can crack, causing fuel leaks and possibly fires. No accidents or injuries have been reported, Ford says.

The Fix:Ford will replace the fuel delivery module flange assembly.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected:The problem affects 411,663 vehicles, including 329,018 vehicles in the U.S. The models include 2010-2012 Ford Escape vehicles built between February 26, 2009 and April 29, 2012, as well as 2010-2011 Mercury Mariner models built from February 25, 2009 to December 12, 2010. All of these vehicles were built at the Kansas City assembly plant and are equipped with 3.0-liter engines.

The Problem:On certain models equipped with turbocharged engines, the relay that controls the secondary air injection pump may fail. If this happens, the pump will operate continuously to the point that it will overheat. Thus, the pump could melt and a fire could start.

The Fix:Subaru will replace the secondary air injection pump relay.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected:The recall affects around 100,127 vehicles, including the 2007-2009 Legacy and Outback, 2008-2014 Impreza, and 2009-2013 Forester. All of the affected models are equipped with turbocharged engines.
