Ford Launches Smartwatch App for EV Drivers

Smartwatches haven't caught up to smartphones and other tech gadgets in popularity yet, but if you have one and drive a Ford EV, you're in luck. Ford is rolling out a smartwatch app that allows drivers to check their battery charge level, available driving range, and other important information from their wrist.

Ford engineers developed the apps as a thoughtful addition to the MyFord Mobile platform available on Android and Apple smartphones. The smartwatch apps were designed for those who drive the Ford C-Max Energi , Ford Focus Electric, or Ford Fusion Energi.

Not only do the apps keep track of available range and notify drivers when their car is fully charged, but they can also remotely lock the doors and change climate settings. Drivers can even choose to receive a personal driving score at the end of each trip. Plug-in owners can see the percentage of miles they drove on electricity.

Hopefully the apps will also prevent drivers from becoming stranded. The main app has a new Google Maps feature with pinch and zoom functionality to direct drivers to nearby charging stations. The apps can even point you to where you parked your car.

Smartwatch-wearing Ford EV owners can download the apps now at the Apple App Store and Google Play.
