2026 Easter Jeep Safari: Jeep Just Dropped Six Rad Off-Road Concepts

The convoy of 2026 Easter Jeep Safari concepts includes a military-inspired overlanding rig, a chopped-top Wrangler, and a 1980s XJ Cherokee restomod.

Kids have the Easter bunny. Off-roaders have the Jeep design department. For the past two decades, Jeep designers have delivered a basketful of eye candy to the brand’s true believers at the Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah. They’re at it again this year with a convoy of concept off-road SUVs and trucks making the pilgrimage to the off-roading mecca for the 60th anniversary of the weeklong trailfest.

The 2026 Easter Jeep Safari concepts—three Wranglers, a Gladiator, a Grand Wagoneer, and a rad 1980s XJ Cherokee—flaunt what’s possible when professional car designers are allowed to dream with a global automaker’s money. Look closely at these concepts, and you’ll discover big ideas and small, hidden Easter eggs that give us a glimpse of how Jeep’s design team is thinking about the future.

Jeep Wrangler Anvil 715 Concept

The Jeep Wrangler Anvil 715 is this year’s most ambitious EJS concept, a military-inspired overlander designers used to play with the Wrangler’s proportions. Everything ahead of the windshield is custom. The nose, inspired by the rhino grilles of the 1960s Kaiser Jeep M715 military truck, sits about 4 inches further forward compared to the Wrangler’s seven-slot grille. That elongated, forward-leaning schnozz is the inspiration behind the name Anvil.

The other big change is the non-removable raised roof, which opens up the interior with roughly 4 additional inches of headroom and four skylights. It gives this Wrangler strong safari vibes. The Anvil, which is based on a Rubicon 392 with the 470-hp 6.4-liter V-8, has been fortified for the trails with steel bumpers, rock rails, and 37-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain KM3 tires on 17-inch wheels. The design team intentionally held back when it came to exterior cargo solutions and a rooftop tent. “We didn’t want to do the whole thing with the kitchen sink,” Chris Piscitelli, senior design manager for the Wrangler and Gladiator, explained. “We wanted to try to keep it a little bit of a blank canvas because it enables our customer base and our enthusiast base to see these concepts and kind of imagine what they’d do to outfit it and personalize it in their own way.”

The Anvil 715 is also equipped with forward- and rear-facing lights for breaking trail and setting up camp in the dark. The interior, finished in a military-inspired green like the exterior, has had the center infotainment screen replaced by a large, driver-facing tablet loaded with Trails Offroad maps.

Jeep XJ Pioneer Concept

Here’s some catnip for the ’80s kids. The Easter Jeep XJ Pioneer is a restomod of sorts, although the 1986 Cherokee hardly needed any restoration. The two-door was originally sold in Reno, Nevada, with a sticker price of $16,487 to an owner who meticulously recorded every single fuel fill-up until Jeep bought it with 80,000 miles on the odometer. The SUV was in such good shape that the Jeep design team left the factory Champagne gold metallic paint and the 2.8-liter V-6 intact. “Honestly, if it wasn’t such a great runner, we probably would have taken the motor out and done something different,” Piscitelli said.

Jeep XJ Pioneer Concept

Out of respect for the donor car’s condition, Piscitelli held back on the mods, too. He trimmed the fenders then installed larger carbon-fiber flares and 17-inch wheels modeled after the originals. The XJ rides on a 2-inch ARB coil-spring lift, a disconnecting anti-roll bar, and 33-inch BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A K02 tires. Custom rock rails have been painted in body-matching color with a matte finish.

The interior is a time capsule from the era when a tachometer was an $118 option. To complement the perfectly preserved dash and upholstery, Piscitelli threw wooden bead seat covers over the reclining Honey bucket seats, stuck a Moonies cling to a window, and tossed a Labyrinth lunchbox into the cargo hold along with an Apple Macintosh Plus box that’s been turned into a custom cooler.

Jeep Wrangler Buzzcut Concept

The Mopar design team behind Jeep Performance Parts gave the Wrangler a haircut by chopping 2 inches from the roof, laying the windshield back, and sloping the rear glass of this two-door, Rubicon-based concept. The result is a sportier roofline and squat bulldog proportions even with the JPP 2-inch lift kit and 37-inch BFGoodrich tires installed. Flat fenders, wide rock rails, and steel front and rear bumpers from the Jeep parts catalog play to the Buzzcut’s chunky aesthetic and contrast with the Vitamin C metallic paint.

Jeep Wrangler Buzzcut Concept

In addition to the radical look, the Mopar crew dreamed up a Wrangler that can carry enough gear for extended trips. The hardtop’s raked rear incorporates a grab handle that can be used with the foldout Amp Research step to access the Rhino-Rack Pioneer platform. Open the tailgate, and you’ll find the rear seats have been removed to make room for Diabolical Inc’s Slipstream lockable security enclosure. The driver and passenger ride in bucket seats cribbed from the Dodge Charger and reupholstered in Katzkin leather and suede. Naturally, the Mopar team has sprinkled Jeep Performance Parts throughout the Buzzcut. The tailgate table, air compressor, pedal covers, door sill guards, fuel-door cover, all-weather floormats, and the cold-air intake feeding the turbo 2.0-liter inline-four are all available from your Jeep dealer’s parts counter.

Jeep Wrangler Laredo Concept

The Wrangler Laredo concept subtly nods to the original Laredo trim that gussied up the utilitarian CJ with chrome bits and badges in the 1980s. The modern reinterpretation is a back-to-basics off-roader based on a Wrangler Willys equipped with the Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 and a six-speed manual transmission. It’s been modified with Jeep’s own 2-inch lift kit, 17-inch retro slotted mag wheels with CJ center caps, and the requisite 37-inch BFGs.

Jeep Wrangler Laredo Concept

Half doors and a hardtop with the sliding canvas section bring the outdoors into the cabin, but in keeping with the no-frills theme, the design team deleted the One-Touch Power part of its Sky One-Touch Power Top. You manually open and close the canvas in this concept. Vinyl floors are a throwback to a simpler time, while seat upholstery made from Southwestern-print horse blankets pay tribute to the Texas city that lent its name to this concept and the original CJ trim package.

Jeep Gladiator Red Rock

While the rest of the Easter Jeep Safari concepts will inevitably retire to Stellantis’ historical collection in Michigan, the Gladiator Red Rock will patrol Moab’s trails for years to come. Jeep will donate this rig to the Red Rock 4-Wheelers as a token of appreciation for the Moab-based club that has organized the Easter Jeep Safari since 1982. It’s been purpose-built with products from the Jeep Performance Parts catalog and the aftermarket to support the trail marking and maintenance work that volunteer Red Rock members carry out year-round. The business end of the pickup features a Bedslide cargo tray and a Leitner Designs cargo rack equipped with GearPod storage containers for hauling tools and supplies out to the trails.

Jeep Gladiator Red Rock

Rock Krawler Suspension’s Overland X Pro 3-inch lift kit, 17-inch beadlock wheels, and 37-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain KM3 tires ensure the Red Rock can go wherever it’s needed. Other upgrades include a steering stabilizer, a steel front bumper with a Warn winch, rock rails, TYRI lights, and an ARB air compressor for airing down and up. Inside, the Red Rock is equipped with the Jeep Performance instrument panel accessory rail and grab handles, and the carpets have been replaced with more durable Armorlite flooring.

Jeep Grand Wagoneer Commander Concept

Moab’s famous slick rock routes might not be the Grand Wagoneer’s natural habitat, but with the big, luxe SUV now officially wearing the Jeep badge, the design team took another look at how the three-row highway cruiser fits into the off-road scene. The Commander Concept is its vision for a Grand Wagoneer that can tow a dedicated trail rig and still hold its own in the dirt. To achieve that, Jeep partnered with Rock Krawler to hike the Grand Wag’s suspenders higher, then bolted on 20-inch wheels with 35-inch Nitto Recon Grappler A/T tires.

Jeep Grand Wagoneer Commander Concept

Custom skidplates protect the underbelly, and a custom roof rack carries seven Baja Designs sPod lights to illuminate the way forward. The body side graphics are meant to be a modern twist on the classic wood paneling found on Wagoneers of yore. They feature contour lines lifted from a topographic map of Canyonlands National Park, a pattern also repeated on the panoramic sunroof.

I fell in love with car magazines during sixth-grade silent reading time and soon realized that the editors were being paid to drive a never-ending parade of new cars and write stories about their experiences. Could any job be better? The answer was obvious to 11-year-old me. By the time I reached high school, becoming an automotive journalist wasn’t just a distant dream, it was a goal. I joined the school newspaper and weaseled my way into media days at the Detroit auto show. With a new driver’s license in my wallet, I cold-called MotorTrend’s Detroit editor, who graciously agreed to an informational interview and then gave me the advice that set me on the path to where I am today. Get an engineering degree and learn to write, he said, and everything else would fall into place. I left nothing to chance and majored in both mechanical engineering and journalism at Michigan State, where a J-school prof warned I’d become a “one-note writer” if I kept turning in stories about cars for every assignment. That sounded just fine by me, so I talked my way into GM’s Lansing Grand River Assembly plant for my next story. My child-like obsession with cars started to pay off soon after. In 2007, I won an essay contest to fly to the Frankfurt auto show and drive the Saturn Astra with some of the same writers I had been reading since sixth grade. Winning that contest launched my career. I wrote for Jalopnik and Edmunds, interned at Automobile, finished school, and turned down an engineering job with Honda for full-time employment with Automobile. In the years since, I’ve written for Car and Driver, The New York Times, and now, coming full circle, MotorTrend. It has been a dream. A big chunk of this job is exactly what it looks like: playing with cars. I’m happiest when the work involves affordable sporty hatchbacks, expensive sports cars, manual transmissions, or any technology that requires I learn something to understand how it works, but I’m not picky. If it moves under its own power, I’ll drive it.
