Both Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Ford have announced that they will be adding Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to their respective infotainment systems. While Ford will start rolling out the smartphone-integrating features on 2017 models equipped with Sync 3, FCA will offer them on select 2016 models.

As part of the fourth-generation UConnect System from FCA, Apple CarPlay will integrate a customer's iPhone with the vehicle's built-in display and controls, while also having access to Siri voice control. UConnect's Android Auto will provide access to Google Maps with free voice-guided navigation, live traffic information, lane guidance, and more.

Ford's Sync 3 system will offer customers the same connectivity features, such as voice controls through Siri for Apple CarPlay and Google features with Android Auto. With the updated Sync system, Ford customers will not only be able to stay connected, with new AppLink apps, but customers will now also be able to program remote starts, lock and unlock doors, check their fuel, and more from their smartphone.

FCA will show off its new UConnect system at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this month, while Ford will roll out its Sync 3 system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on all 2017 models and give customers with 2016 vehicles equipped with Sync 3 a chance to upgrade later this year.
