You Can't Stay Here: Every "Last Call" Dodge Challenger and Charger

The Hemi V-8 era is almost over. But instead of a funeral, Dodge decided to go out with a bang, launching seven "Last Call" models for 2023 to celebrate its iconic combustion engine. The lineup of Charger sedans and Challenger coupes were all high-horsepower sleds to honor the Hemi, the Hellcat, and iconic nameplates from Mopar's past—including legendary cars owned by icons of the street-racing scenes in L.A. and Detroit. The 1,025-hp Demon 170 capped the string of special editions as the Challenger and Charger stumbled into the alley, having swigged their final shots of gasoline. The very first Last Call model to drop was the 2023 Challenger Shakedown , based on a similarly named custom 1971 model that was revealed at the 2016 SEMA Show. It packed a 392 Hemi V-8 crate engine mated to a Viper's Tremec TR-6060 six-speed manual; the 2023 version didn't get the manual, but it did feature a 392 Hemi with a "Shaker" hood and intake system.

Along with Destroyer Grey and Pitch Black (Widebody only) exterior color options—with "Shakedown" graphics, natch—the interior snagged a "Shakedown" dashboard badge and black Nappa leather/Alcantara seats with red stitching. Further accent stitching adorned the dashboard, steering wheel, and center console, while "Demonic Red" seat belts were a harbinger of things to come. Read more here

If you were excited to see Dodge bring back the "Super Bee" name some years ago, only to be disappointed at its lack of true drag racing prowess, this Last Call model is right up your quarter mile. The 2023 Dodge Charger Super Bee came from the factory with drag radials wrapped around wheels with knurling on the barrels to grip the tire beads during hard launches. Standard body 2023 Super Bees wore 275-width radials, while those with the Widebody option received 18x11-inch wheels with 315-width rubber.

For improved performance, the 485-hpm, 475-lb-ft 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 lived under an SRT hood with a functional scoop, dual heat extractors, and Mopar hood pins. A Drag Mode took advantage of the active damping to improve weight transfer. Just 1,000 examples were planned, with half being standard-body cars painted B5 Blue and the other half being Widebodys wearing Plum Crazy. The Last Call Swinger was actuallytwocars , as the Challenger and Charger were each represented. In contrast to some other Last Calls, these two were born to cruise. "Gold School"-painted badging, the Challenger version's Shaker hood scoop, and retro Swinger wordmarks and trunk stripes threw things back to the 1970s heydey of Mopar's Swinger variants.

The hero color of the Swinger package was F8 Green, but you could order the Swingers in Sublime Green or White Knuckle, as well. These exterior colors were complemented by the green "Swinger" Bumble Bee stripe and gold wheels. Read more here

To make both the Charger and Challenger proper Swingers, the widebody R/T Scat Pack versions of Dodge's muscle cars served as the base, with the Plus Group option package installed.

Inside, Nappa leather and Alacantara seats received green stitching and green Dodge hashmark logos embroidery. Mod Grain, a wood-like look, was applied to the aluminum bezels and further green accent stitching applied to the doors and console. The Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody King Daytona brought the beef with an 807-hp supercharged Hellcat Hemi V-8. While it made big power, the name "King Daytona" was actually an homage to William "Big Willie" Robinson, the 1960s and '70s L.A. street racing icon who built the original King Daytona Charger, among other iconic custom Mopars .

The instrument panel received a special "King Daytona" badge, while orange accent stitching was applied to the dash, console, microsuede-wrapped steering wheel, and door trim. The interior bezels were formed from carbon fiber. Read more here

The 2023 Challenger Black Ghost honored another street racing legend, in this case Godfrey "GQ" Qualls, a Detroit cop who prowled Woodward Avenue and other environs in his 1970 Challenger R/T built with a unique combination of features, including a "gator grain" vinyl roof. He would pop up to race and drop the hammer on unsuspecting fools and then disappear for weeks or months at a time, earning his legendary car the Black Ghost nickname .

The Challenger R/T Qualls built his legend on was an SE with a 426ci V-8, four-speed manual, aa lack of a Shaker hood. (The piece wasn't installed at the factory, like it should have been; GQ received the hood later but never added it to his car.) The 2023 Black Ghost packed an 807-hp Hellcat V-8; it also sported a roof decal to mimic the original's vinyl roof, white bumblebee rear fender graphics, script versions of the Challenger's grille, fender, and spoiler badges, and a chrome fuel filler door.

The end of the line for the Last Calls was the wicked 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 , a strip-ready beast that made enough power to make you wonder if it should be legal: 1,025 hp and 940 lb-ft of torque. The "170" in its name wasn't inspired by a traditional number like displacement, unlike the 1971 Dodge Dart Demon 340, but rather the E85 fuel required to make its full output: It contains 85 percent alcohol, which would make it 170 proof if it were a liquor. Speaking of which, each Demon buyer received a wild whiskey bar set with their VIN and name on it.

Even at a claimed mass of 4,275 pounds, on a prepped drag surface, the Demon 170 was said to hit 60 mph in 1.66 seconds and cross the quarter mile in just 8.91 seconds at 151.2 mph—the latter a number that would require a roll cage at an NHRA track. Like the 2018 Challenger SRT Demon, the new 170 is a single-seater car. Back then, though, you could add seats for a couple bucks. In the new car, the privilege cost $2,500 (and the bench can be re-deleted from that package at no cost). A sunroof went for a whopping $10,000, likely to encourage folks not to order one.
