BMW co develops new hydrogen fueling station in California

The U.S. has a new hydrogen filling station for hydrogen-powered vehicles, thanks to the combined efforts of BMW and Air Products.; Serving as a project collaborator, BMW says the station currently dispenses hydrogen fuel as a gas, but liquid hydrogen will be capable of being dispensed at the station in late 2007.;

Liquid hydrogen accessibility is a key issue for BMW. The automaker is taking a different route than most hydrogen fuel vehicle efforts, which are powered by the gaseous version of the;element.;BMWdebuted;its liquid hydrogen-powered 7 Series last year.

The hydrogen station, located at the UC Irvine campus in Irvine, California, is the first to be built in the country that features hydrogen fueling at a variety of pressures.; Due to its proximity to UCI, it is expected the station will also be used for fueling demonstrations and educational purposes.
