Aehra Sedan EV First Look: Italian Startup Is Just Warming Up

Blink and you'll miss the subtle differences between this Italian startup all-electric automaker's two vehicles, but Aehra has just revealed its Sedan EV to join the similar-looking Aehra SUV model revealed back in November 2022 . The startup still doesn't have a factory as of yet, but execs are confident the first two models together will garner enough interest to eventually satisfy a volume of up to 50,000 vehicles per year by the end of the decade. Let's check out this all-new sedan from the bespoke Italian EV maker.

Reuters, which spoke to Aehra's CEO Hazim Nada , reported both the new Sedan EV and SUV EV will go into production in 2026. The vehicles are targeting a balance of performance and practicality, said to offer a top speed of 164 mph and an estimated range of more than 490 miles on a single charge.

According to Reuters , Aehra recently secured a deal for 120-kWh NMC (nickel-manganese-cobalt) batteries from Miba Battery Systems, an Austrian firm.

Filippo Perini, Aehra Head of Design: "Taking visual inspiration from classic Italian design principles and the world of nature, the new Aehra Sedan is based on the same industry-leading EV architecture and mono-body principles of the Aehra SUV. It utilizes advanced global engineering and pioneering recyclable carbon fiber composite material to deliver an all-electric driving experience quite unlike anything on the road today."

Production for both the SUV and Sedan EVs is targeted to start by 2026, with ambitions to sell its vehicles in the North America, Europe, China, and the Gulf States markets. Preorders are set to open later in 2024.

Aehra's Chief Design Officer, Filippo Perini, joined the company from Lamborghini, and its Chief Engineer, Franco Cimatti, came from Ferrari.

As for where the Aehra SUV and Sedan EVs will be built is apparently still an open question, according to Reuters , with a preferred choice to go with an existing large contract manufacturer in Europe like Magna Steyr, similar to how Foxconn manufacturers iPhones for Apple. Aehra is also considering its own facility, either a new one or purchasing an existing factory, if there are enough incentives. The decision will come around the end of this year, according to the CEO.

The Aehra Sedan EV and SUV EV are each expected to be priced around $160,000 to $180,000, as we've previously reported. It's likely all-wheel drive versions of each will be available. It's unclear if those funky rear doors are going to make it to production, but executives are promising what you see so far is what you will get.
