The 2028 Mitsubishi Outlander Diamond Trail Edition Goes a Step Further Toward Fun
A new off-road mode and better approach and departure angles promise even more go-everywhere-ness.
Ruggedness is very much in vogue right now, so say hello to the 2028 Mitsubishi Outlander Diamond Trail Edition to keep up with the Wilderness, TrailSport, and Woodland off-road specials from its competitors. This new edition sports black exterior trim and a new drive mode to get you that much further from the trailhead.

A new matte-black grille heads off the Diamond Trail Edition, alongside darkened fender cladding and 18-inch black aluminum alloy wheels wearing Nexen all-terrain tires. Roof rails add extra cargo storage options. Redesigned front and rear bumpers give the SUV better approach and departure angles: 20.5 degrees and 23.1 degrees, respectively, up from 18.3 and 22.2 degrees.
There’s a new exterior color as well, called Trail Green Metallic.
Inside, the seats are upholstered in Diamond Trail Edition-exclusive and water-repellent dark gray material with khaki stitching. Additional dark satin, chrome, and matte-black trim dress up the interior to finish the look.
A new drive setting—Rock Mode—mitigates downhill slippage with brake control and automatically engages hill descent control. A new instrument-cluster screen shows traction control intervention, the slip of each individual wheel, and front-wheel steering angle. In non-Diamond Trail grades, the multiview camera system shuts off if the vehicle exceeds 6.2 mph. Here, it stays on until 18.6 mph, meaning you can keep an eye on the trail at higher speeds without having to turn the camera back on constantly.
No engine upgrades accompany this edition, so it’s the same 1.5-liter turbo mild hybrid four-cylinder that debuted for 2026. It produces a claimed 174 hp and 206 lb-ft of torque.
The Diamond Trail Edition joins the existing LE, SE, Trail Edition, SEL, Black Edition, and Ralliart AWD Outlander grades. Mitsubishi didn’t announce pricing, but we expect it to sit above the Ralliart’s near-$40,000 sticker.
