Report: New Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing Is on the Way

We’ve long been fans of the Cadillac CT5-V and its predecessors, but the CT5-V Blackwing holds a special place in our hearts. Its supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 produces 668 hp and 659 lb-ft of torque, its thunderous soundtrack making every startup and stomp of the accelerator an occasion. But last year, Cadillac announced it would retire the current CT5 generation, including the CT5-V Blackwing, after the 2026 model year. We weren’t sure whether the Blackwing would get a replacement—the regular CT5 has already been confirmed to live on—but a new report suggests the most monstrous model may have a future.

Citing sources familiar with the matter, GM Authority reports that Cadillac is planning a successor to the CT5-V Blackwing as part of the next-generation CT5 lineup. Cadillac has confirmed that it is developing a next-generation, internal-combustion CT5, but the company itself has not announced whether the lineup will include CT5-V or CT5-V Blackwing variants.

The report is light on details, leaving us wondering what engine the next Blackwing might use, whether a manual transmission will continue to be offered, and when the car could arrive. Cadillac hasn’t announced a launch date for the next-generation CT5, but we expect any CT5-V Blackwing successor to arrive several months after the mainstream version launches.

The current Blackwing’s combination of a supercharged V-8, rear-wheel drive, and an available six-speed manual transmission makes it nearly unique among modern performance sedans. Preserving that formula would delight enthusiasts, but Cadillac could take the next model in a different direction as emissions requirements and customer demand continue to shape GM’s product plans.

The next-generation CT5 will ride on the updated Alpha 2 platform, but Cadillac has remained tight-lipped about the sedan’s technical details. A new Chevrolet Camaro is also reportedly on the way, and the CT5 and Camaro are very likely to share their rear-drive architecture.
