Color-drenching is absolutely a thing in interior design, and there’s no reason it can’t be done to a car. The 2027 Hyundai Ioniq 9 Calligraphy Black Ink gives the top-spec Calligraphy grade of the three-row electric SUV black chrome and gloss black details all over. Sounds and looks swanky.

The Ioniq 9’s geometric exterior styling is typically enhanced with contrasting materials here and there, but this monochrome edition gives a new twist on its cyber-futuristic vibe. In addition to the black, 21-inch wheels (a Black Ink exclusive), you also get gloss black roof rails, black window surrounds, black inner door handles, and a black front Hyundai badge. There are also black chrome front skid plates. The overall effect makes the Ioniq 9 look more imposing than ever.

Inside, the all-black seats are accompanied by black aluminum trim as well as a black steering wheel. All this is applied to the Calligraphy trim, the most luxurious Ioniq 9 you can get. Standard equipment includes a six-passenger layout with Relaxation Seats for the first and second rows. The third-row seats are heated as well, which is always nice. Technology-wise, there’s 14-speaker Bose premium sound, a 10-inch head-up display, and vehicle-to-load EV capability.

The powertrain remains unchanged, so the Black Ink Ioniq 9 will make 422 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque from a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup. shouldn’t really impact the Ioniq 9’s status as the ultimate family hauler.

The SUV is slated to arrive at dealerships this summer.

I got into cars the way most people do: my dad. Since I was little, it was always something we’d talk about and I think he was stoked to have his kid share his interest. He’d buy me the books, magazines, calendars, and diecast models—everything he could do to encourage a young enthusiast. Eventually, I went to school and got to the point where people start asking you what you want to do with your life. Seeing as cars are what I love and writing is what I enjoy doing, combining the two was the logical next step. This dream job is the only one I’ve ever wanted. Since then, I’ve worked at Road & Track, Jalopnik, Business Insider, The Drive, and now MotorTrend, and made appearances on Jay Leno’s Garage, Good Morning America, The Smoking Tire Podcast, Fusion’s Car vs. America, the Ask a Clean Person podcast, and MotorTrend’s Shift Talkers. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, cooking, and watching the Fast & Furious movies on repeat. Tokyo Drift is the best one.
