2025 Chevrolet Silverado HD Trail Boss: Welcome to the Off-Road Fam!
Chevy’s heavy duty pickup gains off-road trim, minor adjustments across lineup.
Yup, it's time to talk about the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado HD already. Still relishing last year's mid-cycle refresh, GM's heavy-hitting hauler and tower isn't due for any major updates, but thanks to the introduction of the off-roady HD Trail Boss trim and some other shifts in available and standard equipment, it's far from stagnant for the 2025 model year.

For 2024, Chevy completed its halo off-road ZR2 lineup with the Chevy 2500HD ZR2. For 2025, it completes its Trail Boss lineup with the biggest boss yet, the Chevy HD Trail Boss. If the bills won't allow a ZR2 or the time off-road doesn't justify the extra moolah, the more affordable Trail Boss (effectively and affectionately to be thought of as a ZR2 Light, although pricing hasn't been released) stands ready to fill the gap like a (middle-manager)boss—if you can wait until this summer.
The four-wheel-drive 2025 Silverado HD Trail Boss will be available on LT and LTZ trims—the two trims sandwiched between the lower WT and Custom trims and the higher ZR2 and High Country trims on the other end. Adding to the standard goods found on the LT and LTZ, the Trail Boss gets the Z71 Off-Road Package (highlighted by Rancho twin-tube shocks); sleek, blacked-out exterior pieces (front and rear bumpers, trim, and badges); Trail Boss bed decals; red recovery hooks; and special 20-inch black wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich all-terrain tires, according to the one picture revealed so far.
It comes standard with the 6.6-liter gasoline V-8, with the 6.6-liter diesel Duramax V-8 optional. Power output for both carries over from 2024 (401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque and 470 hp and 975 lb-ft, respectively), and both engines are backed by the standard 10-speed automatic transmission.
Aside from the Trail Boss HD, the rest of what's new for the 2025 Chevy Silverado HD isn't nearly as exciting. Front and rear park assist is now standard on the ZR2 and is also available for the WT, Custom, and LT trims. The High Country gets standard adaptive cruise control. The Custom trim now gets the Black-Out Package option, and the Midnight Edition has fresh 20-inch wheels.
Stay tuned for additional Trail Boss specs and pricing information as production nears.
