The Toyota Supra's Manual Transmission Won't Cost Extra

Toyota has remained tight lipped regarding details of the new manual transmission available on the 2023 Toyota GR Supra, until now. The good news is you won't be paying extra to equip the stick shift on trims where it's available. The bad news is the Supra costs more across the board now, but only by a few hundred dollars for most trims.

Sadly, it doesn't look like the 2.0-liter I-4 base Supra gets a manual option, despite previous reports indicating we could get it. That does mean there's now nearly a $10k price barrier to entry if you want to row your own gears, so in a way, youarepaying more for the stick. Here's a pricing breakdown, including this year's $1,095 destination charge, which is slightly more than last year's destination charge:

The turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 Supra is good for 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, and the turbo 3.0-liter I-6 manages 382 ponies and 368 lb-ft of torque.

Also new for the 2023 model year is the GR Supra 3.0 A91 special edition. This is not the same as the carbon fiber A91 CF from last year, which was also limited. The 2023 A91 gets gunmetal grey wheels, the red Supra emblem, cognac leather seating, red struts, two color options in Matte White or CU Later Grey, and will be manual-only. This year's A91 is limited to just 500 units.

Interestingly, aBMW Blogreport indicated the Supra's sibling car, the BMW Z4 roadster, could also get the manual update in a mid-cycle refresh for that model later this year. If you're on the fence on a manual Supra for whatever reason, or you're just in love with convertibles, it may pay off to wait and see what BMW has planned.
