"A new, and very different Ferrari is coming." The Italian supercar maker has finally offered an official look at its controversial upcoming SUV, the 2023 Ferrari Purosangue, in a teaser advertising that the new model will debut sometime later this year. It's Ferrari's answer to the Lamborghini Urus, Aston Martin DBX, and Bentley Bentayga high-performance SUVs that were also once just as controversial.

Ferrari finally teased the Purosangue on Wednesday, offering up an image of the front, and not much else. The announcement tries to justify the new SUV's existence, reading: "A car whose bloodline can be traced back through our 75-year history of innovation, evolution and uncompromising performance. Stand by for a genuine game changer. All will be revealed later this year."

Ferrari's intention with its first-ever SUV is to create a new segment for itself, likely shifting the resources that used to go toward niche models like the Ferrari GTC4Lusso into something better positioned for what's popular in the market at the moment: SUVs. The Purosangue will ride on a version of the Ferrari Roma's modular front-engine platform. It will feature more ground clearance than other Ferraris, with all-wheel-drive and potentially height-adjustable suspension, probably for some very light, and very fast off-roading.

Ferrari previously promised it would try its best to get a V-12 into the package, but it will depend on new European fuel economy regulations. If it does get 12 cylinders, we could expect somewhere around 789 horsepower, which is what the 812 GTS with a V-12 is capable of. We also anticipate Ferrari could offer some form of plug-in hybrid powertrain, and expect all models to get the familiar eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
