2017 Ford F-450 Super Duty Can Tow 32,500 Pounds

Specs for the2017 Ford F-Series Super Dutyare out, and by the numbers it looks like Ford's commitment to its new generation ofall-aluminum bodied pickupsis paying off with dividends. Ford saved up to 350 pounds from the last Super Duty to the new 2017 model, which allow to strengthen and reinforce the truck in other places. Now, the 2017 Ford F-450 Super Duty can tow up to 32,500 pounds (maximum gooseneck tow rating), up 1,300 pounds from the outgoing truck.

The Super Duty's all-new fully boxed frame is up to 24 times stiffer, and it's more than 95 percent high-strength steel according to a company press release. 5th wheel towing climbs to 27,500 pounds, conventional towing to 21,000 pounds, and payload to 7,630 pounds.

Another element to these gains is upgraded engine performance. The 6.7-liter turbodiesel Power Stroke V-8 engine makes the same 440 hp as before, but torque is up to 925 lb-ft from 860 lb-ft—a crucial increase north of the Ram 3500's 900 lb-ft with its Cummins diesel.  The 6.2-liter gas V-8 also sees its torque jump from 405 lb-ft to 430 lb-ft, while power stays at 385 hp. F-250 Super Duty models with this engine also add a new six-speed automatic transmission that Ford calls TorqShift-G, boasting a higher first-gear ratio, better fuel economy, and improved launches from a stop as well as improved rolling acceleration.

On the tech and equipment side, the 2017 Ford F-150 Super Duty adds adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and collision mitigation and collision warning, 360-degree cameras, and a new trailer camera.
