The 2016 Chevrolet Silverado receives a number of updates to keep the current-gen truck looking fresh two model years after its debut.

The new Silverado 1500 features sculpted lines on the hood as well as new lighting elements for a noticeably bolder appearance. Other big changes include additional safety technologies and an updated Chevy MyLink infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration. With this feature, drivers can access many of the same functions from their smartphones through the car's infotainment screen.

For the 2015 model year, Chevrolet introduced a new eight-speed automatic transmission for the top-dog 6.2-liter V-8 engine. Now, Chevrolet is expanding the use of this transmission in the Silverado lineup by making it available on some models equipped with 5.3-liter V-8 engines. Other models with 5.3-liter and 4.3-liter engines will continue using the standard six-speed automatic, according to General Motors.

Sales for the Silverado jumped 14.6 percent during the first half of the year. A total of 275,822 models were sold, making it GM's best-selling product in the U.S.
