2015 Mazda CX-5 Touring Long-Term Update 5

Taking in Our CX-5 for Service
MotorTrend StaffWriter

When you share the responsibilities of a long-term vehicle, things like car washes and maintenance sometimes slip through the cracks. We were a bit late for the first service, so we wanted to make sure our 2015 Mazda CX-5 long-termer was in good running condition as we prepared for a road trip up north in the coming month.

The CX-5 was a few hundred miles away from needing another 5,000-mile service; our first occurred at the 7,500-mile mark. With our crossover hitting 12,000 miles, it was recommended to us that we perform the 15,000-mile service. At that interval, the service includes a tire rotation, an oil change, a battery and brake check, a change of the OEM filters, an inspection of the belts and hoses, and more.

Sitting in the waiting room of dealerships while you wait for your car to get serviced is always an experience. Whenever I've needed to service a personal or press car, there's usually an employee from the sales side looking to get you to trade your car for something else. This time, while I was waiting for the CX-5, I couldn't escape a salesperson trying to get me into a new Mazda3.

Two hours later, the service tech returned with my keys and the final bill of $203.41, with a voucher for $20 off our next service. While we may have jumped the gun a bit with this service, we felt it's better to be safe than sorry with our plans to drive up Interstate 5, where there is just desert to either side.
