2014 Scion FR-S Release Series 1.0 is Bright and Lowered for NY

Writer

The Scion FR-S is getting its first taste of the brand's Release Series treatment. On display at the 2014 New York Auto Show is the very yellow 2014 Scion FR-S Release Series 1.0 that not only includes the requisite visual mods, but a few performance tweaks as well.

In addition to its Yuzu paint finish, the 2014 FR-S Release Series 1.0 is fitted with Toyota Racing Development (TRD) lowering springs and a TRD exhaust system with quad tips that, if anything, help to make the coupes rear end look relatively aggressive. The back end also features a rear wrap-around spoiler that's part of the custom aero kit. The wheels appear to be standard fare, as is the 2.0-liter boxer-four engine under the hood.

Inside, the special FR-S gets more TRD treatment, including a new steering wheel, gear shift knob, and cargo mat. A few premium items include HID headlamps with LED daytime running lights, dual-zone climate control, and a smart key system with push button start.

Scion is only producing 1500 copies and will offer it with either the six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The 2014 FR-S Release Series 1.0 arrives in showrooms this August and pricing details are still forthcoming, though Scion says it will be priced under $30,000.
