The 2014 Buick Regal now comes with a standard 259-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 engine, and with a base price of $30,615 including destination. While the turbocharged I-4 at the bottom of the lineup gets a slight power boost, the 2014 Regal eAssist model gets a price bump to $32,485.

The turbocharged 2014 Buick Regal and Regal GS both get the 259-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 -- an upgrade for the base model and a slight detuning for the more performance-oriented GS. With 295 lb-ft of torque, some owners may consider upgrading to the all-wheel-drive model, which starts at $32,790, or $2175 more than the front-drive turbo Regal, but also comes with better steering feel and isolation from bumps.

Every 2014 Regal gets as standard 18-inch wheels, a rearview camera, leather seats (heated in front), and an eight-inch center stack screen. Rear parking sensors, HID headlights, hands-free keyless entry, a heated steering wheel, and rear-seat thorax airbags are available, as are safety systems including adaptive cruise control, lane change and rear cross traffic alert systems, and a following distance indicator.
The 2014 Buick Regal with eAssist tech may see a $2575 price increase this year, but that jump includes revised styling inside and out as well as the Premium package as standard. As with the turbocharged Regal, the eAssist sedan uses a six-speed automatic and has engine stop-start tech. EPA-rated Regal eAssist fuel economy is 25/36 mpg city/highway, while the turbo model gets 21/30 mpg in front-drive form, 19/27 mpg with all-wheel drive, or 20/31 mpg with front-wheel drive and the six-speed manual transmission.
That six-speed manual is only offered as a no-cost option on the $37,830 2014 Buick Regal GS. Aside from a retuned suspension with different driving modes, the 2014 Regal GS adds 19-inch wheels, Brembo four-piston front brake calipers, a premium sound system, HID headlights, navigation, and leather-covered sport seats. Twenty-inch wheels with summer tires are still available. Paired only with the six-speed automatic, the Regal GS can be had with all-wheel drive for $2365, bringing the total to $40,195 before considering Buick's new-to-Regal safety systems and upsized wheels and tires.
With a base price above $30,000 and a refreshed interior, the Regal may finally have what it takes to emerge from the shadow of the now more-popular and less expensive Verano. Get the full story on the 2014 Buick Regal in our First Drive right here.

I’ve come a long way since I drove sugar packets across restaurant tables as a kid, pretending they were cars. With more than 17 years of experience, I'm passionate about demystifying the new car market for shoppers and enthusiasts. My expertise comes from thoughtfully reviewing countless vehicles across the automotive spectrum. The greatest thrill I get isn’t just from behind the wheel of an exotic car but from a well-executed car that’s affordable, entertaining, and well-made. Since about the time I learned to walk I’ve been fascinated by cars of all shapes and sizes, but it wasn’t until I struggled through a summer high school class at the Pasadena Art Center College of Design that I realized writing was my ticket into the automotive industry. My drive to high school was magical, taking me through a beautiful and winding canyon; I've never lost the excited feeling some 16-year-olds get when they first set out on the road. The automotive industry, singing, and writing have always been my passions, but because no one seeks a writer who sings about the automotive industry, I honed my writing and editing skills at UC Irvine (zot zot!), serving as an editor of the official campus newspaper and writing stories as a literary journalism major. At USC, I developed a much greater appreciation for broadcast journalists and became acquainted with copy editing rules such as why the Oxford comma is so important. Though my beloved 1996 Audi A4 didn’t survive my college years, my career with MotorTrend did. I started at the company in 2007 building articles for motorcycle magazines, soon transitioning to writing news posts for MotorTrend’s budding online department. I spent some valuable time in the copy editing department, as an online news director, and as a senior production editor. Today, MotorTrend keeps me busy as the Buyer's Guide Director. Not everyone has a career centered on one of their passions, and I remind myself all the time how lucky I am.
