2003 New York Auto Show: Ford SVT Mustang Cobra MystiChrome

Since the next-generation Mustang won't be production-ready in time for the nameplate's 40th anniversary in April 2004, one last special edition of the current car will step in to help commemorate the occasion. This one will use the SVT Mustang Cobra, with its 390-horsepower supercharged V-8, as the template for a so-called MystiChrome appearance package, which is nothing more than color-changing exterior paint. As the viewing angle changes, the car's color morphs from topaz green to cobalt blue to royal purple to deep onyx black. What sets this model apart from other similarly painted cars in the past is that the interior also features psychedelic MystiChrome leather trim, which is the answer to a question we've certainly never asked. A total of 1000 Cobra coupes and convertibles will be offered beginning in spring 2004. Whether MystiChrome turns you on or not, consider that it could be a long time before an SVT version of the next-generation Mustang is available.
