The Problem:Some Routans may have an improperly routed wiring harness that the lower sliding door hinge can wear through. A short circuit is possible, which can overheat the latch and create a fire in the rear sliding door.

The Fix:VW dealers will inspect the wire assemblies in the sliding door and power drive unit and repair and replace as necessary. The two harnesses will be strapped together and routed under the sliding door weatherstrip. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration expects the recall to begin June 2010.
