Jeep Wrangler Adds LED Headlights to Options List

Those pursuing better on-trail illumination have an additional factory option for the 2017 model year. The heritage-happy Jeep Wrangler will join the future of automotive lighting, adopting light-emitting diode (LED) headlights as an option.

According to WranglerForum.com, which appears to have obtained an ordering guide for the 2017 SUV, the LED headlights will be available as part of a $595 package that also includes LED foglamps. $595 strikes us as a reasonable deal for the lighting technology, which provides a brighter, more even beam for better vision in the dark.

Until now, the Wrangler JK had only been available with old-tech halogen headlights, and customers had to resort to aftermarket high-intensity discharge (HID) or LED lighting kits for improved visibility. Luckily, the Wrangler’s 7-inch round headlamps made such conversions relatively straightforward, but nothing beats an OEM solution for user-friendliness.

In addition to the Wrangler’s LED lamps, Jeep will also offer HID lighting on a broader range of its SUVs. For example, all trim levels of the Cherokee except the Sport will come standard with HIDs, and a late-availability option on the Renegade will bring the technology to the company’s littlest offering.

With the all-new Wrangler JL on the way late next year, the new LED options aren’t terribly substantial. But since the Wrangler continues to sell incredibly well, even a decade into its model cycle, Jeep probably doesn’t need much help turning shoppers into Wrangler drivers.
