About a month ago here on Mustang-360.com, we told you about our Week To Wicked Mustang coupe project. Today is Wednesday, July 12, and in five days we begin the process of turning our semi-restored Mustang into a 500hp road trippin’ handling machine.

That’s right, this coming Monday, July 17, we drive the 6-cylinder/automatic coupe into our TEN Tech Center and begin the process of blowing it apart, replacing the drivetrain with a 500hp Ford Performance crate motor and Performance Automatic 4R70W, and the entire suspension with Classic Performance Parts goodies, among basically every other part on the car.

The car was decent when we got it, but like most early Mustangs was in need of some tender loving care, plus a few unique restomod tricks. So the first step was to send it to Superstition Restoration in Mesa, AZ where Mike Rossi and Justin Smith first installed a Mustangs To Fear fiberglass front fascia and hood then smoothed and fixed the body before laying on many beautiful coats of Axalta products, culminating in the 2017 Ford Competition Orange base coat and clear.

So check out the video for that process, and stay tuned for tomorrow when we follow along as AM Hot Rod Glass installs trick flush-mount acrylic windows in the car. Then get ready for a full week of insanity as wrenches fly while we transform this Mustang. It’s going to be fun!

I came about my automotive passions honestly—my dad was a heavy equipment mechanic (think bulldozers and other heavy earth movers) and was also an amateur go-kart racer when I was a baby. “Helping” him work on a friend’s sprint car when I was 4 or 5 years old placed the speed gene in my DNA and I’ve been a certified, hardcore gearhead ever since.

My dream was always to race in the Indy 500 but my fallback plan was to somehow be involved in the automotive industry, and I was in the right place at the right time to get in the door at the top automotive publishing company in the world.

I am currently the editor of Mustang Monthly and have a long history with Fords in not just the publishing world, but also drag racing, road racing, and car shows, but I honestly love any kind of motorized contraption that looks cool and/or goes like stink.
