Watch: Stuck Tesla Cybertruck Prototype Gets Towed Up Snowy Hill By a Ford

The Tesla Cybertruck is finally here and out and about in the world. With the holiday season in full swing, we're seeing drivers using them like the pickup trucks they're purportedly designed to be. A video captured and uploaded to X.com on Monday evening shows one such instance of a tree pickup, but in it, the truck appears to be having significant problems simply climbing a snowy incline.

The video features a Cybertruck prototype with a tree in the bed apparently struggling to move under its own power. It's not clear if the Cybertruck may be stuck on some sort of obstacle, but it doesn't appear to be the case from what we can see. The caption suggests the tree is what's causing difficulties, but that's doubtful because it's not putting significant enough weight on the back axle, we imagine. Seeing that this is a "Release Candidate" pre-production model and the video could have been recorded whenever, what's likelier is the software controlling the differential isn't working, or the truck is using the wrong tires, or there's more ice than we think, or more likely it's simply down mostly to driver error.

That's not all, though. While the Cybertruck is spinning its wheels, the camera pans to capture what appears to be a Ford Super Duty pickup parked a little ways away, seemingly attempting to tow the Tesla. It should be noted here, however, that the Ford is on solid and level ground while the Tesla is not. But the placement of the tow straps makes it seem like this Cybertruck prototype lacks proper recovery points for tow mounting. Images of later Cybertruck models did show tow hooks mounted on either side of the front air opening in the lower black front bumper.

While the Cybertruck has demonstrated impressive towing capabilities in the past, this isn't the first time video has surfaced of it struggling off-road. Videos from October show the truck testing on some sandy hills without the surest footing. It's possible Tesla simply still has some off-road tuning left to do, considering the amount of tech capability it's claimed the Cybertruck is worth, including 2,500 pounds of claimed payload and rear-axle steering. Or, these issues may have already been sorted on delivered production models. Maybe someone from Tesla will clear the record, but it's a given that everyone is already planning significant off-road testing (including us) of this truck in every condition, so we're about to find out the reality of its abilities very soon.
